hey everybody, im looking to buy a new 727 as mine is starting to slip and is getting weak, the market im looking into is the competition series with no trans brake from turbo action, coan etc. What companies would you guys recommend or what expieriences have you all had with the various companies out there. Mike

There's no reason you can't rebuild your trans with some performance upgrades and a new valve body. Are you OK with your present converter? My trans guy is here on Long Island, but I'm sure we can find someone closer to you.

Well that is something that i am considering as well, for one thing the front seal leaks, the shifts arent snappy like they used to be even though it has a shift kit and turbo action valve body, converter is fairly new its a turbo action 2800 stall, it also has just been acting up occasionally as it wont move sometimes in gear almost like it won't engage into gear.

You already have the valve body & converter, you just need a quality rebuild.:headbang:Are you able to R&R the trans yourself??

yup, already had it out once before to replace the converter and valve body...what do you think the price difference is with buying a new trans or having the internals freshened up??

My guess,,,,,,,,,,a good overhaul over the counter is maybe $500.I have no clue how much a mail order trans would be.What part of Jersey you in??Post up a pic of your car:grin:Have I seen you at Island,Atco,E/town or Lebonon:confused5:

rebuilt kit around here is about $50 for standard kit. $80 for kit with steels, and about $10 for Kevlar kick down band. I've never had more than $100 in a 727 rebuild kit. except for one that the pump was messed up, the new pump was $60 or so.

Up in Bergen County right next to Paramus, ill start searching for a trans guy and see what type of numbers they give me, dont know if ive ever seen you before, my father and i go out to island and occasionally to raceway park, we rebuilt the entire car ourselves, sandblasted, paint etc. Now that im 19 i get to take some passes down the track and do all the work taking the orders from my dad. I think its safe to say ive caught the "moparbug" :headbang:

I would go A&A on your trans parts and I have someone who builds a great 727 and is very fair he is in south Jersey... If you want his number PM me...

How much power or how quick you going?
If your in the 12's or slower, a performance rebuild kit (Alto Red Eagle clutches and Kolene steels) is about all you should need.
Faster than that and you may need a steel spline front gear, billit drum and 16-element bolt-in sprag.

I would add

Depending on your budget I would just add to that list above, if your planning on running it at the track & on the street mainly, a Band Apply type Valve Body set up also it will help to save the {sprag bolt in or not} sprag/overrunning clutch, from overreving they can spin to speeds of 12,000rpm {believe me you don't want that, it makes a big freaken mess & scares the crap out of you too boot} & possibly exploding, if you do 1st gear burn outs or plan on any down shifting at any speeds... It's cheap insurance... Coan, A&A, Grinner, Turbo Action, Mikes Transmissions & Phoenix Transmission are all good resources amongst many others...

i got a new a&a trans for sale with all the good parts .let me know.aluminum drum, wide racing band, red altos, bolt in sprag. pm me. im in nj twice a week.
