Lost keys

Fuel cell.....running race gas? I kept racing fuel in my shop so mine got gassed up at the track and anytime the cell was low I put fuel in it at home.

Popped the trunk to access the fuel cell, places bunch of keys on top of fuel cell, finishes with fuel cell and closes trunk lid.

How did he start the car after that?

Never took a glove box lock apart but someone years ago told me the glove box lock only had 3 tumblers in it.....is that true?

I used to carry an extra ignition switch in the car when I didn’t have two sets of keys. Coat hanger to open the door. Screwdriver to pop the back panel latches. If they were in the trunk I didn’t need the spare ignition switch.
30th Charger TDC Meet in Jefferson City. I showed a participant how to get the back panel down.
Someone also had problem with their big block car. People gathered around and got it fixed in a barn at the site where the meet was. Great community of TDC members.

I second a lock pick set. The lock is the same as the glove box and it's dead easy to pick with a basic set. $5 on Amazon and you are good to go.

Permit me to share a story about picking my 1st lock. It’s a LONG story; but will try to spare most of the details. I had an aunt that was bat-crazy only getting more-so. Hollywood couldn’t have scripted a worse bitch and I only can say I was cursed when she re-entered my life. She became a millionaire thanks to hitching up with a guy who croaked off leaving her his wealth, as before she didn’t have a pot to piss in. She was out of town and wanted some documents out of her hefty fire-safe file cabinet in her new condo. It was a nice-expensive cabinet. She had the key so she said ‘break’ into it. My daughter had a lock-pick set I borrowed.

Lol, remembered seeing the flicks where PI’s and thieves were so adept at picking locks in 15-seconds. It took me a good 15-minutes (leaving the crowbar in the car as the passing minutes had me thinking to go get it) but unlocked the damn thing. She wasn’t impressed when I called her saying I saved ruining a perfectly fine cabinet, she just wanted the doc’s overnighted. Then she said there is a thousand bucks in there and to check on it. There was 200-bucks. Then the insinuations about ME lifting the $800! ONLY friggin thing that kept me from telling her what I thought of her was my mother as they had always been super-close in their younger days. Told my mom this sister-in-law you remember is gone and seriously whacked-out and we gotta get away from this rancid nut-case; but my mother couldn’t forget their best times together. It got much worse – and I wasn’t unhappy when she croaked off..

I have left a key in my trunk lock for 20 years, that way I never have to look for it. If you happen to find your keys I suggest making some duplicates…

Do you have any large rubber bungs in the rear of the trunk floor like a 68-70 B-Body? If you do, try popping one out and look up with a flashlight at the lock mechanism.
You may be able to finagle the lock to pull the catch enough to pop the trunk lid - you did say you have a fuel cell, so we assume no fuel tank in place.

I still have a lot of keys but not as many as used to.....

Mom and pop hardware that was right around the corner isn't there anymore. The owners wanted to retire and no one wanted to buy their two stores. They made all my keys but there's a hometown lumber yard 4 times further away that does a good job and don't charge an arm and both legs. Lots of times the 'offspring' think they know better how to run a successful business but really do not.

I used to run race fuel years ago, now I run ethanol free gas.

I have left a key in my trunk lock for 20 years, that way I never have to look for it. If you happen to find your keys I suggest making some duplicates…

I put the keys on top of the bed, don't know how they got under the sheets to where I couldn't see them.

There are 5 tumblers in the lock. Here is a good thread about opening them.

Haven't had the occasion to do that in awhile but I used to be pretty good at it.
One time a stranger asked for assistance after locking his keys in the car. I grabbed a wire hanger from the shop and had him the keys in minutes. As I collapsed the hanger into a ball he said to stop and please let him have it to keep in his car in case he ever did it again.
I gave it to him as I didn't wish to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
