part # 60412 thinking about going with this cam in a 408 motor. The car will have a 2500 stall 3.55 rearend.
Will this cam make alot of Tq early? I'm south of Houston so I need a A/C car what are yalls thoughts?

I assume its a street car/truck not a race combo, because of the A/C, 2500stall & 3.55:1 gears... What is the weight of the car/truck ??, what compression ratio ??, what type induction system, carbed or EFI ??, what other valve train components have been changed ??, what rocker Ratio ??, what cylinder heads ??, what size combustion chamber, thickness of head gasket, valves sizes & are the heads ported ??, do the pistons have valve reliefs ??, can your current set up accept the lift of the new camshaft ??... Need some more specific engine details, all those things plus others can/will effect how a camshaft works... Some cam specs would be nice to help so we don't have to go to Lunati to see "what cam your talking about"... I have no idea what cam that is, but with an A/C system {in my opinion} not much more than 210*-220* duration @ 0.050" or 270*-280* advert. duration or you will/could have, over-heating, idle, vacuum &/or accessory issues, on a auto trans type driver, especially in stop & go traffic situations, depending on what lift you choose, you may need to do some mods, piston clearance, shave the tops of the guides, different seals, springs, retainers & locks... Sorry to be so ****, but I would say call Lunati or any other reputable camshaft mfgrs., tell them exactly what you have, complete engine/car combo, they will tell you what you will/should need or what you should buy, they are the experts after all...

.535/.550
duration @ .050 231/239

1.5 rocker ratio i'm thinking about the holley 770 ultra street avenger
I'm not sure how much the car weighs 10 to 1 comp I have TTi small bock headers with their 3" exhaust

i did call lunati and they did not ask as many questions as you. I told the tech guy i wanted a hydra roller cam this is the ### he gave me.

Personally I would say, "that's a wee too much duration", to use on a driver with A/C, Just my opinion... I do know guys who have more cam duration than that with A/C units, that drive their cars allot, but also have issues when using the A/C in the 90*+ heat here in Calif., especially idling allot, the dry heat there in Texas would probably have the same effect... Maybe add an auxiliary electric fan to come on when ever the A/C is on, but that's still allot of cam duration for a driver street car, the lift isn't an issue unless you have guide or piston clearance issues... The 770 vac. sec. Ultra Street Avenger is a good all around easily tunable street performance carb... Have you already built the engine ??

Call them back

i did call lunati and they did not ask as many questions as you. I told the tech guy i wanted a hydra roller cam this is the ### he gave me.

Call them back or call someone else & ask more questions, give them spec.s & answers to some of the questions, "I asked you", I'm surprised they didn't ask you all of those question & more... Tell them what the exact intended usage is & be completely honest with them...

no have not built the motor getting ready too. I have called 4 different cam company and I did tell them it was for a weekend end car with a A/C Lunati was the only one to really talk to me about my set up. There tech guy told me the hydra roller cam was the way to go alot of vacuum

If you trust them, by it... I would do allot of research first... Check different web sites & see what a quality engine builder would use... Having a large displacement SB stroker like a 408ci will require a little more duration, than a std. SB, but I would check it out 1st, before you spend the cash, Try calling Mancini Racing tech line 1-586-790-4100... There are also some great books on building SB Mopars Strokers, with many parts suggestions... I would tend to agree about the Hyd. Roller being good for lots of vacuum, for the most part, as long as the lifter bores are good & straight, with proper clearances, not tapered or wore out & have adequate oiling & you use the correct style/length lifters or bush the lifter bores {remember the block has probably 100k+ miles}, some Hyd. Rollers Lifters aren't very good quality, have oiling issues & early failures... Most manufacturers even Mopar on their new "crate engines" won't warranty an engine, with a cam like that, used with A/C, most won't even recommend to use it with A/C... I'm not saying it won't work, at all, just plan for the issues it creates, overheating & idle quality/drive-ability, almost anything can be made to work... Even the 426ci Hemi's the ones with hyd. cams & the 69-1/2 to 71 6bbl/Six-Pack 440 & 340 engines didn't use A/C with aggressive camshafts or Hemi grinds 284*/0.484" MP purple shaft grinds or cams with over 277* advertised duration... Like I said before the lift isn't really an issue, as much as the duration, as long as you have proper clearances at the top of the guides {0.520"ish gross lift, is about all the stock guides will allow, with 1.5:1 rockers} & at the pistons, use some quality adjustable rockers, the stamped steel stock rockers are marginal with that kind of lift, use the proper, springs installed at the right height, with matched retainers, locks, seal, proper length/style push-rods, matched to the camshaft...

Sorry I really hate giving camshaft recommendations, it's so subjective to what you want & can tollerate... IMHO if the tech. from a camshaft company doesn't ask the questions I asked you, they aren't doing their job properly, just trying to sell you parts... Those are all factors in choosing a camshaft... There are a couple of really good engine builders on these forums IQ52 or HeyOldGuy is on here from time to time & on www.MoparMuscleMagizine.com forum & www.DodgeCharger.com forum & another guy Challenger340 on Dodge Charger.com forum, both guys are very good & would maybe give you a good recommendation... Mancini Racing, Ray Barton Race Engines, Indy Cylinder heads, LaRoy Engines out of Idaho, are all great engine builders, I would trust what they say...

Your Welcome

Budnicks thanks for the advice

Your Welcome, I've needed help from time to time, in my youth, I wish someone would have guided me in the correct direction, before I learned the hard way too many times, I finally found a couple of wise old guys I trusted they never really steered me wrong, we all need to pass on our knowledge when we can... There is nothing wrong with asking for help, just give us all, as much information as possible, so we all can give you educated answers & don't have to go back & forth as much, saves some on the typing...LOL....
