I got a new Mallory dual point distributor for almost free for my 71 Charger (now with a 400). I know electronic ignition is the way to go as far as reliability and performance, but since my budget is running low its looking more enticing. Will I see any much if any improvement over the stock single point distributor?

Yes sir. As long as you keep the points adjusted properly, a good dual point can rival the best electronic distributor. Lots of racers set records with them back in the day. Make sure you lube the rubbing blocks good. If you don't, they will wear slam out in short order. Also, don't use a feeler gauge to adjust them. Use a dwell meter. They should be around 16* each. Set them individually by putting a piece of cardboard about like the thickness of a coke carton between the set you are not adjusting. Then move to the other set.

Good deal, thanks. I was hoping to hear something like that. I'm getting everything I need to start re-assembling my mess and all the extra stuff is draining the bank fast.

Yep, what Rusty said. I ran one for years and it worked great. Only thing is the lack of vacuum advance is not too good on a street engine. If you do a lot of street driving and don't have to go to 6000 RPM then I'd just keep the single point. I have seen the Mallory distributors with vac advance but not too often.

Ok I got it out of the box and took a closer look. It has new points in it and an adjustable vacuum advance. I checked the Mallory part number and Summit still sells it for $340...now I'm VERY happy with what I paid for it.
