I browse FB marketplace just to see if I can find a deal on something I need/want and have come across some good deals.
Picked this up for $50 the other day, looks brand new, although the calibration expired in 2015 I still think its a good deal and more accurate than Ill ever need measuring to .00005".
I'm not a machinist but know my way around tools, though the little cap next to the anvils has me wondering what its for...???

From Right to Left, and Bottom to top:
1) Rods to measure 0-6"
2) Tool to remove battery cap
3) Larger ratchet cap for thimble (insert appropriate length rod and install ratchet cap)
4) Anvil for fixed side of mic
5) Calibration standard 1"-5"
6) Mic

Some deals and a bunch of wacko Ships to you flooding it.

I appreciate that, I thought it was for the thimble just wasn't sure the how and why...So what is that advantage over the black rachet?

I filter it for local only and within about 20 miles of me.

It is hard to see, but the black portion is threads isn't it? If it is actually a cap, it could be just a protective cover for the ratchet cover, or the black is a non-ratchet cap, in which case, you can use either.

It appears to be knurled for use. I was playing around with it last night using various standards to zero it out then measure some different sized items and re-verifying that It returned to zero.
The small black thimble allowed me to move in .00005" increments, where as the larger thimble moved in .00100ths +/-.
As I understand and please correct me if I'm wrong, but when measuring I tighten the mic up until I get one click on the ratchet? Does that sound correct?
Thanks

and the rods go in from the anvil sid
That is correct there is a slot for the dowel on the anvil to seat and the cap holds it in place.
I looked for an owners/operation manual online but couldn't find anything specifically for that model.

I rotate a couple clicks, when it is ratcheting, it shouldn't be able to tighten any more. It is more a feel for it thing, and getting used to obtaining a proper measurement.
