I recently purchased a 70 GTX that’s been off the road since 1982 that is Originally form South Carolina and now in Southern Ontario. The engine is seized and the engine bay looks to be all original and unmolested. Upon running all the numbers I’ve come to find that the vin and serial numbers on the block are not the same but very close. The vin shows 201507 and the block shows 210507. Is it possible that this is actually a numbers matching car with a possible assembly line error or is this a replacement motor that coincidentally has the same numbers with 2 of them
reversed?

I doubt you are the proud owner of a coincidence. More likely a miscue on the numbers. Those things were pretty common back in the day - a lot of hang overs on the line back in those days.

If casting dates all fall into the same time period I would call it a typo. 201k vs 210k would put casting dates out past the rest of the numbers on the car. You could also research VIN range and date to come to a conclusion.

Based on what you have for the 2 numbers switch than that is definitely a line error....I have seen several examples through the years where that has happened....

Especially, if the casting dates and the assembly date on the ID pad fall in line with the build date of the car......

I agree - check the dates, but sounds like a transposed number. My Satellite shows the wrong body color on the fender tag, the Certicard, and the window sticker. But the IBM card is correct. In my case, a mistake was made, then it was copied 2 more times.
