A friend of mine from work stopped me the other day and asked if I would like a 63 Dodge w/35000 actual miles. when I asked what kind of dodge he said he didnt know ,but it had 2-4barrel carbs from the factory, and it looked like new.Supposedly belonged to his neighbors grandfather who passed away rescently.supposedly started weekly until about a year ago. What should I offer, how do i authenticate real max wedge ? Thanks and i will try to get pics this weekend when I go look at it. Wish me luck.

A Max Wedge will have a painted aluminum cross ram with two Carters, not inline 4 BBL's. Anything could have happened in the 40+ years that the car has been around but the block pad should have a letter followed by 42 then MP for max performance. In 64 it will be V42 MP. 63 carb numbers should be 3447 and 64's are 3705. The max Wedge block has it's own casting number too but I don't know it off hand. The Galen books have that info. I saw recently on here somewhere a post with early car fender tag decoding info. It's possible the factory did not have an engine code for the Max Wedge engine itself but maybe showed up as a separate option line somewhere.

I hope you found a real max car and you get it, but my guess is it's a 426 standard wedge with perhaps the older 413 in line 2-4BBL setup or maybe something aftermarket. No matter what it's still a cool car and you should pursue it - especially if it's in good shape.

The first thing i would do is go here:
http://www.maxwedge.com/
On the left side of the site click on Darrell Davis.
He sells a book that has the factory recorded V.I.N.s for these cars. Thes cars are faked often and people are always leary of this. Get the V.I.N. from the car and start there.

Just for your consideration, the 413 was last used in pass cars in 62 but the 426 came into play in 63 at 425 HP at 5600 rpm in the DQ configuation. If you dont want it i'm next in line. Start low and go high. People are hungry. They may or may not know what it's worth. Test the waters and see if $5000 will buy it. The old man surely knew it's value but the kids may not have a clue. It's probably just an old car to them. I'll back ya up on the $5000 offer. Let me know if we have it bought. I've got the trailer hooked up.

Oh it a gas guzzler, you would hate it!

Where it at you say? ha ha

This day of the internet, most people have looked to see what these old cars are worth. Unfortunately some thing they hit the lottery and want way more then what it is worth, or don't consider that it will take an additional 10 to 15K to be worth what they want in the first place.

If you can get it, definitely post some pictures. Love to see it.

OK so now Im told that it is a 65 Coronet w/max wedge?&42000 miles, one owner

They did not make a Max Wedge anything in 1965, it was replaced with the Hemi for the package cars and they were called A990 cars as that was the package sales code number.

They did still install a 426 WEDGE in a 65 Coronet but it was a street wedge NOT a Max Wedge and there is a world of difference in the value of the cars.

Still...follow up. It may be a 65 street wedge with a 2X4 manifold installed. It may be a 65 that had a Max Wedge installed 'back in the day'. He's been wrong before. What if it's actually 66 Coronet with 2-4bbls from the factory (Hemi)? You'd kick yourself for not checking out that lead.

If they don't know the difference between a '63 and a '65, then maybe they don't know a wedge from something else with plug wires poking out of the valve covers. Dual 4s in a '65 Coronet could be sitting on top of a race Hemi. Yeah right - what are the odds? But I guess you'll have to see it to know for sure. Grandpa would surely know what it was - and it would have been in the will as such, you would think.

its probably a 65 chevy NOVA

good luck//// these never turn out to be real... dan

I see we have another Moparts member to welcome to FBBO.

Yes, it is often the case but there are also many that kick themselves everyday because they did't take the time to follow up on something that turned out to be A FANTASTIC find.

Years ago when i was buying and selling this stuff when i heard about something good I dropped everything and beat feet to it. I found some unbelievable stuff even 35 years ago.

I've still got the trailer hooked up. The 65 2 dr post coronet i like better still. Still got the money. When ya go over play dumber than a box of rocks and ask em if the old junker runs. That will be a test of the waters. Keep us posted.

The 65 426 "Street Wedge" was a single 4 bbl 365 HP. I've seen many with 2x4 of every configuration. Hope it's a good "find" for you. POST PICS!!!

Here are a few pics, street wedge/auto,Not what I hoped but pretty nice.

Whats the story on the factory chrome valve covers and air cleaner? Hi Pro 383/440's ?

So did you buy it? How much were you able to get her for? Nice car! Although it needs some work, but doesn't look bad. How's she run? Good luck.
