89 cases are out of 69 and newer cars. All you have to do is look at the edge of the ring gear for the ratio or count the teeth vs what's on the pinion. Looks like an open rear to me.

Open rear for sure.Don't let the rust bother you, pull it apart and wire wheel the rust on the spider gears and ring gear, did one the other day for a guy worked great. Can't beat free for a 489.

That pinion looks pretty small. Might be a low gear set. I wouldn't even worry with wire brushing it. Blow it out good with air, install it, fill it up and haul ***. That rust will be gone. Oh and the 489 case is a goodun. Arguably the strongest. Especially with a crush sleeve eliminator.

Yep, it's a good one. I'd clean it up good before using it, and if you are going to put a sure grip in then might as well get the bearing kit too. I bet you have a 3.23 or taller.

As long as we are guessing.... I would say it looks like 11 teeth on the pinion and 40 + change on the ring. So... my guess is 3.91 gears.
If I am right, what do I win? :)
