I took delivery of a 70 road runner from SOuthern Motors, Clarkson, MI, while prepping it to run around we had the car on the jacks and after idling it and adjusting some of the carburatoration, the transmission just stuck (no 1 and 2nd gears, just third and fourth).

The engine drives the rear wheels without been engaged.

I happened to open the gear case and the transmission was empty - the guy that assembled the car did not put oil in it.

Did I melted something inside the tranny?. (I did not run the car, just on jacks).

Its a 440 six pack w/ a 4 speed - suppose its a 833.

Helpe here!!!!

shifting forks . or blocker rings (syncronizers). may have jammed due to no lubrication. hard to tell with out it sitting right in front of me...but no lube is NOT GOOD`. THEY MAY EVEN BE MISSING. IF THIS DUDE DIDNT PUT ANY GEAR OIL IN.....LORD KNOWS WHAT ELSE HE DIDNT PUT IN.

Just depends on how long you ran it and how hot the bearings and such got. I'd pull the side cover for a looksee. If it's still clean, no metal filings and such, I'd throw some lube in it and see how it does. Can't hurt. If its trashed, its trashed.

Was the guy required to drop the fluids for shipping intercontinental? If not, what an idiot. Even if adding some fluid fixed the issue, I would still be pulling it apart to access the damage.

Thanks guy, will drop it on thursday and see how much damage. No aside from gasoline no fludi has to be droped, or was dropped. The list of stupidity in this car just goes beyond my wildest imagination. Will drop some pictures for the laughable gallery later.

Took the oil drain and there was not even a sign of oil - DRY!!!!

Will talk to David at Southern to see what he has to say about it.

Grrrrrrrr......I would be pissed!!! Really sorry to see your bad luck. That guy would be having a conversation with my size 13 boot......

I know the feeling. I do alot of work on these cars that a customer buys. I can't believe some of the crap I find. Took apart a 71 Cuda. Most everwhere I should have used a 3/8 I had to use a 10mm. Pulling a blown sb out of a Camero right now. Same thing as yours. Drain plugs and alot of other bolts finger tight. To small of the flex plate, wallard out holes and missing a bolt. Just crap like that. And this is on 30-50K dollar cars.

That's a shame, these guys have been around a long time and I hate hearing stories like this. I would have a hard time buying a car that is supposed to be "done" from anyone without looking at it first hand. I see your location and understand that you are at the mercy of the sellers. I guess I would have tried to find a third party to have a closer look at it and take it for a test drive.

I see it has a six pak!Is it a real one?I hope you checked the numbers!Or did you buy it as a clone?

I would be :angryfire:!!!!Let us know how that conversation goes and what he's willing to do to make this right,if not,,,,,,,,,,,,,,time for an internet shitstorm!!!:blob1:

I bought a 72 GTX back in 1984 from an Ammco service place in Jacksonville. They had taken possession of the car from some young sailor who had bought it with tranny issues, and compounded his mistake by telling Ammco "just fix it." When he got hit with the $900 bill, be couldn't pay it so he signed the car over to them.

I bought the car for the $900, drove it for two days, and the tranny went out. Turned out the idiots at Ammco hadn't tightened up the cooling lines, and I had been laying out a spray of tranny fluid all over north Florida for two days! I contacted the Ammco about it, and those no loads refused to honor the warranty because I hadn't ordered the work done, and technically they had owned the car when it was worked on.

I learned then and there to always check the crap out of everything after a supposed "expert" has worked on it.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes, and I hope your car wasn't too damaged as a result of some hack that wrenched on it before.

Yep, I learned! A few years later I had a 73 roadrunner converted from a 318 to a 440 by "The Leading High Performance Engine Shop in Tampa!" I went to get the car, and thought I would check things out after they told me it was ready to go. Turned out they had royally screwed up the firing order on the distro! :)

Yep, one of the gears got seized to the main shaft. Definitely pull it and take it apart - if you can. Some of the pics don't show up but sounds like you have quite a mess. Sorry to hear about the troubles.

As a side note, I built a tranny for a guy years ago and I grease everything really well when I put one together. Well, he drove it for a week around town before he remembered to put oil in it!! No harm done apparently.

SamUK, I don't have a dog in this fight, but let me apologize from all of us and say while there are a lot of people doing work like you got, there are even more who take care and pride in what we're doing. I hope you can get your car straightened out, and you won't be afraid everytime you drive it that you're going to find something else they screwed up.

Like Hemi-itis said, if they don't make it right, we need to see if we can stir up a storm to ruin their day until they do make it right.

This is very unfortunate...I bought a 66 mustang fastback sight unseen from Ohio many years ago...got burned bad-so there are 2 things i will never do again:
1-buy sight unseen
2-buy from a dealer

Even the 71 I just bought has some shitty mechanical gremlins that I found...Good luck w/ a resolution!
