Hello,
I bought this CVR 1338 Mini Starter from Summit Racing because the other starter I had was barely touching my headers on the back corner of the main big part. I bought this one to try because says it has 10 clocking positions which I am hoping will give enough clearance from the headers once I clock it a bit. Why these things do not come with any good instructions I will never know but I have some questions that hopefully you guys can help answer:
  1. There are 5 positions on the top of the bracket to clock to and 5 on the bottom. It appears that I can only clock to 5 positions unless it allows me to swing the whole thing 180 degrees. Do you know if this is possible? Otherwise it looks like it really only has 5 clocking positions.
  2. The bolt hole on the top of the bracket appears to be larger than on the bottom of the bracket. Do you know why? Shouldn't they be the same size to match the hole they are bolting onto?
  3. There is a large black rubber drip tube thing at the end of the main starter big piece. Once clocked, this hose thing might touch my headers. Can the hose be cut? I don't really remember seeing this on the starter I returned but maybe it was there..
  4. Anything I should be aware of regarding the nose cone?
  5. Any other information I should know about this thing?

Thank you in advance for helping with your knowledge.

This starter makes no sense to me. The bolt holes being different sizes seem fine because it matches the OEM starter bracket. And I think the nose cone is pretty straight forward and will do a good job with the alignment. HOWEVER the clocking has me stumped :angry4:

It seems like this thing only has 3 clocking positions. The one it is in now and one notch up or one notch down. If you go two notches up or down then the bracket bolt holes get covered up and you cannot fit a bolt in it. How can CVR advertise 10 positions when it only has three? What am I missing???

Being able to clock it just one position up or down might not give me the clearance I need from the header, I would prefer a tiny bit more. I am supposed to be able to clock to 7 other positions. Anyone know how CVR expects you to do this??

Hmm never seen one of them before, my mini bolted right in and after the header install wiring was a pita! but it works. I would see and advantage to clocking if you could get the terminals downward to wire from underneath I would try for that position. everything else on it looks normal.

The larger bolt hole should come with a collar to take up the space between the bolt and the larger hole, I think that is how mine came, but mine did not come from summit.

Ok, got the starter installed on the only clocked position I could change it to. Looks good but has only 1 cm of clearance on the back part of the starter motor. Think that is enough?

Also, there is no room for the big black rubber stopper plug whatever that thing is hanging off the end of the starter. Does anyone know what this is used for? I was thinking about just covering the hole it went on with some metal tape and poking a small hole in the tape. One guy told me the black rubber tube thing is simply just to keep dirt out. Anyone know what the purpose of it is?

Update - CVR customer service told me that hole on the starter is simply to prevent condensation and it can be plugged if need be.
