I'm running a mechanical distributor (on the street) and want to try a vacuum instead. Summit has a sale on the Mopar distributors right now plus I have some Summit bucks to burn so I thought about ordering one but have seen some have been having issues with them. What's the issue and is this why they are on sale?

dont want a MSD?
I like the MSD stuff but being on a tight budget I thought I'd see what people thought of the Mopar ones seeing how they are on sale and the MSD's are pretty expensive.

yeh too easy, cant help you with mopar ones, but the msd ones i can.

I run a stock dist in my sons car from a 383 and all I did was recurve it. It has been in his Dart since 1997 and it runs 11.40's with it. If your car is very stock the Mopar dist should work fine. I mean I know alot of racers still using them in their race cars. I am not aware of any production problems with them. Ron

I have always had good luck with the original Mopar electronic distributers. Since they have quit making them, others are making replacements. I had a bad experience with one from Mancini and a friend had issues with one from Jegs. Because of this, I will be putting a Firecore on my Road Runners new engine this winter.

thats the thing. I think if you can get your hands on an older one from the 90's you are a good. Its the newer ones that have issues

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to give the firecore a shot.

Let us know how it goes, just a reminder the 4 seconds flat guys are awesome. I am in the process of tuning with their help. (book version) Although they are more geared for the racer they have great solutions for simple tune up items and can make sure your setup is at it's best.

MSD makes the best distributor for your electronic setup... use them... as for points Taylor... Or old school from the 80's rebuilt... cardone has never failed me and there cheap for a budget guy...

Don't buy mopar anything... it's all junk unless it's NOS before 78 before they went broke....

As mentioned before, I like the MSD stuff it's just priced ridiculously to me and I'll give my business to whom (no Chinese) tries to produce a good product at a decent price. Allot of times once a brand establishes itself it tacks on a hefty price tag because they can "I'll pass". Now on the other hand if anybody comes across a bargain on one before I get around to buying one let me know.

I went with a Firecore last year. Less expensive than MSD and the adjustment for mech advance is a piece of cake to adjust. No bushings so you can get spot on if you want to. I recommend one.
