I have a 72 charger motor was rebuilt about 1500 mi ago all electronics under the hood new,new fuel pump motor has ran great, but in the last month after I drive it for a few miles and it gets warmed up, when I stop at a a stop light the motor will die when at a idle but it will start right back up and run great I have the idle set at 700 rpm any suggestion as what to look for to fix this problem.
Thanks Bob

Does it idle pretty smooth at 700 or is a little rough? You mention that it used to run great.. does it now run fine other than dying like you mention?

Sounds like it could be a vacuum leak.

It idles smooth and it still runs like a scared rabbit, I have listen to try find any vacuum leak but can't hear one is there a vacuum line that goes to the tranny

Check you gas filter, mine did the same thing after I replaced a lot of stuff and kicked myself later after replacing a five dollar part!

Carburetor Troubleshooting Guide.

Dies coming up to a stop
sign, but idles OK.

1) Bad or misadjusted
BCDD (if equipped). ........This means: (Boost controlled deceleration device)
1) Adjust to specs or replace as necessary.
2) Bad throttle positioneror bad vacuum source to it.
2) Check throttle positioner with a vacuum pump. Replace if defective. Replace cracked hoses. Check vacuum hose
connected to the correct pipe on carburetor or thermal switch.
3) Idle speed and mixture incorrectly adjusted.
3) Reset to specs. See the adjustment instructions.
4) Loose or defective float pin.
4) Fix or replace the pin.

does it have power assisted brakes if so try in a controlled area to disconnect the hose going to the booster and plug the vacuum hose with a bolt or something and test the car in a vacant parking lot or perhaps a back road (obviously it will take a lot more pressure on the pedal with the booster disconnected) see if it still does it. ive heard of the diaphrams going bad inside them and causing a vac leak.

I think I got it fix I started adjusting the Idle screw out 1/4 a turn and then driving 2mi and stopping to see if car would die after many mile and a total of 2 3/4 turn out on the Idle jets the car keep on running. Now the car had been running fine all last summer without any adjusting on the carb. which was set at 2 1/4 turn out so that is a total of 5 turn out to keep in running this year don't know why.But Thanks to all of you for your suggestion.
