MP leaf springs too stiff?

Drop the shocks and push on the car. This will at least narrow your focus. If the car still won't budge, it's definitely related to the springs. Also, don't forget the shackles need to be able to move as well.

Loosened and re-torqued EVERYTHING on the rear suspension. The only bolts that were over-tightened were the u bolts. I got them back where they should have been in the first place, and things seem to be moving much smoother now. When I took it for a drive today it was better, but still too stiff for my taste. I may try pulling a leaf from each side and seeing how that works. However, for the sake of trying the least difficult thing first, I will probably try another set of shocks before doing that. Thanks for all the suggestions

By the way, here are the pictures I promised. It was actually kinda decent outside this afternoon in Seattle! It's a 340 4 speed car with 3.55 sure grip. Original color and stripes were redone in 1997

Well damn! My wife went to bed, so I went out to the garage and pulled off the rear shocks. You can bounce that rear up and down with no effort now. Thanks 5wndwcpe and all you other guys who chimed in on the KYB shocks. Any recommendations to replace them with?

Shortly after purchasing this '68, I put MP leafs on it and in a pinch, regular parts store $12.00 Monroe shocks (as per someones suggestion) because I hadn't decided what I had wanted to run permanently. They are still on there and that was eight years ago. And you know what ? They ride pretty damn good. Mind you, the car is just a knockaround driver and not some autocross wannabe, so I don't expect much out of it, but hell, for twelve bucks, how can you go wrong.

I actually just put two new monroe shocks on the front of my daily driver GMC van a couple months ago and they work great so far. Cost $20 each, and they had "made in USA" stamped right on them. Maybe I'll grab another pair for my Road Runner. I sure can't afford $400 for Bilsteens. I thought KYB were supposed to be a good performance shock, but maybe that's too much performance for real Seattle streets. The other posters above were right. Rides like a dump truck. Thanks again for the help guys
