So i recently picked up a old msd 5 box, tested it out with a coil and it works great, question is how do I wire it for a stock mopar electronic dizzy, i know the red wire is power, black is ground, orange is negative side of coil and white wire is what triggers the box, on my dizzy I have a orange and black wire, would the white wire from box go to the black wire off the dizzy ??, and also does the orange wire from dizzy just get 12 v power. This is not like the 6 boxes where you have the purple and violet wires i believe the colors are, thanks for your guys input

Yes i have this diagram, problem is i do not know how to wire up the orange wire out of my dizzy, it also says msd 5 will not trigger from MAGNETIC PICKUPS, i want to make sure the original mopar electronic pickups do not use magnetic pickups,

Well, Mopar electronic ignition distributors use magnetic pickups. I’ve never heard of a MSD-5, but the first diagram shows it connected to points. Why would somebody add this to a points ignition? I’m way out of my league on this one???

Perhaps, the best way to proceed, is to re-sell or give away the old MSD 5 box and use something that is easier to connect.....what's wrong with the MOPAR ECU box, coil and balast resistor to work in conjunction with the MOPAR distributor.....then everything is compatible. Why go to the trouble and likely have ignition issues down the road?......just curious.....????

The instruction sheet in post #2 says the -5 will not work with mag triggered dists.

I have a 5C box, it connects like the regular orange box. Not sure about just a 5

If you want to improve your ign system, simply use the GM 4 pin HEI module which can be bolted with a heat sink to the side or under the dist. No other 'boxes' reqd. Icing on the cake would be to use an E core ign coil with it, open plug gaps to 0.060". Wiring diagrams/pics on the web.
If you want to retain the factory coil or any coil that uses a bal res, then you MUST use the bal res with the HEI. Doing this does NOT realise the max improvement that HEI offers...

Supposedly when used with a MSD the points trigger the box but don’t have the same electrical load and last way longer. Read this years ago when I needed to fix up an old ford.

I did that back in early 70s with my race car, I never could get the dual points to stop ‘shooting ducks’. So I bought one of their first MSD box’s developed with Chrysler. One set of points (short arm S/S race type) and no condenser. Nothing but MSD after that plus used the STOCK electronic dist with the one tiny spring.

If you use an msd adjustable timing box, they have magnetic input, and white wire output.
