Mine is hidden under the battery tray in the engine compartment. Very close to all the connections to be made, stays cool, accessible and fits very well there. Best of all? No one notices.

Any issues with the unit? I'm thinking the same location for my 68 Charger for the same reason - short leads, stealth location.

None. It has been there for 7,000 miles and over 6 years. Car gets driven hard on the street and track.

Think about voltage drop when the battery is in the trunk? Same distance.

Thats why I ran pos and neg battery cables under my car up to post on the firewall so I have a good hot and ground right there for my MSD. It also is the power for the car as I run a separate battery cable for the starter circuit. Has worked great with no problems so far. Ron

Mine is not under the batter but behind it on the fender
its been there for years and never an issue
Wires go along the front of the core support and the coil is mountes on the passenger side inner fender near the horns

Hi all, I'm sure this answer is somewhere just cannot find.. I'm having engine rebuilt and was told that I would need msd6al or equivalent control for the build of it.
Car was converted to electronic ignition from prior owner (orange box). In looking at wiring for these boxes, it states that no additional coil wires can be connected to the coil however current orange box requires them.

Is adding msd box as simple as just removing the current wiring to and from the orange box or os it deeper than that?

If someone has wiring diagram to do this it would definitely be appreciated.

They're separate ignition systems. One of MSD wiring diagram shows a way to wire it so if the MSD fails you switch back to the orange box system with some minor amount of tools. Read what spark wires to use and no fine wire spark plugs.

I have always mounted them under the battery tray in the engine compartment. My current set up, MSD Grid, RacePak data logger, fuse/relay panel, 4 stage nitrous controller are all mounted under the dash on the knee bar.

I'd like to find a neat relay panel/box that I could mount around the battery or rad support that would handle: horn, headlights, fan, electric water pump, etc..

On my GTX I mounted the MSD under the battery tray - with custom brackets that bolted up to the original braces - it meant that when I removed the MSD, there was no trace of it ever been installed.

So many guys go all gung-ho and start boring holes in the firewall, and are left with a mess.

I was told to never mount them inside the car, as you'll hear the 'ticking' when the unit is working.
