Muffler or Not?

Run both street cars with mufflers. One runs 3" Ultra Flows. Never uncapped it to see if it's quicker, runs 11.0@122. The other runs
2 1/2" Dyno Max to the rear bumper. Never opened it either, has been 12.5@110. Racecar always runs open exhaust. Don't want the extra weight. Runs 9.0@148.

I personnaly don't like the sound of mild cams and low compression. That's why my street cars run mufflers. Sounds way better than open. My 8.0-1 supercharged engine with a [email protected] sounds like a John Deere. Hell I think my racacar sounds mild. 15.1-1 and a [email protected]" cam. No cutouts for me.

I remember reading something years back when some California tracks were making muffler rules because of the complaining neighbors. Super Comp was one class that started experimenting with mufflers and found out they did increase hp a bit. It caught on and they still use them today.

Here's some quotes that I'm surprised more who commented didn't address:
turn-downs at the rear axle that slightly faced each other.

Like topside, turndowns in front of the axle, 45° angle toward each other.

all the way out the back

to the rear bumper
WHERE the exhaust ends makes a huge difference in how loud it is and how it sounds.
Under the car like before or just behind the rear axle makes the exhaust pulses reverberate and somewhat echoes and amplifies the sound.
OUT the back, even with or just beyond the rear bumper or OUT the sides, even with or just beyond the lower edge of the car makes the sound quieter, no doubt.
Personally I loved the sound of opened cutouts on my Roadrunner because of the rhythm of the cam and idle speed ~900 RPM but didn't "sound" high-all relatively speaking.
This is open cutouts with the added focus and reverb of the garage
