Yup, and here is the problem. Nobody wants to get to the root cause of what is ailing our society. And when you try to, this is the response you get. When i say this country is moving to the left, i mean in terms of the ever increasing dependence on government and the corresponding size of government. Left wing ideology favors big government, right wing is small government. I dont give a crap about the letter after the name of the representative. I dont root for the red team over the blue team. there are plenty of big R republicans that favor big government solutions to problems no government has any business handling. In doing so, they have created a situation where people no longer have to do for themselves because government is there to do it for them. People no longer know what it means to be responsible for themselves. Living in a consequence free environment will breed loonies every time.

The father is back in Russia not here, the family was from Chechnya... :iamwithstupid: but I saw the same stuff, been watching off & on, since about 2:00am PST/10:00pm EST, heard the gun battle & grenades or what ever they were explode, saw some guy they cornered on the ground & put in cuff, don't know who that was, it wasn't either of the brothers... I guess they allegedly car jacked a Mercedes SUV, that started the chase, when the owner of the SUV was let go or escaped, heard it both ways... the older brother {dead now} was a 2nd year medical student here in the Cambridge/Boston area, the younger was a UMass student, both have been here for quite a while now...

This is a random horrible event. Another in a long string of random horrible events. These sorts of things have been happening as long as I could follow the news, around 30 years. But if you think that the political climate in this country is somehow to blame, I really don't know what to say to you. Consequence free environment? One of these dirtbags has been killed by law enforcement, the other probably will be very soon. I'd say they're facing the consequences of their actions.

What does "big government" have to do with murdering innocent people? I've grown up in CA most of my life, in a left leaning county with educated parents and friends. I've been watching violent movies and playing shoot 'em up video games for decades. I have never been arrested, much less ever committed a violent act against anyone, nor have I ever truly wanted to. So how do I fit in to what you're talking about? According to you, I expect "big government" to take care of me, there will be no consequences to my actions. So I can.. not work? I've always worked. So I can... kill people? Haven't killed anyone.

Blaming the government for everything bad under the sun in this case makes absolutely no sense to me.

But hey, to everyone in MA, I feel terrible that this has happened out there- I hope that this finds you and those you love OK. Can't wait for this loser to be caught or killed so you can all get on with your lives again.

well, if not the political climate, then what else would cause a devout muslim to do such a thing? Jihad on marathon races? This isnt the act of a man that just reached his breaking point and snapped. This was premediated. although not very well i must say.
And how do you fit in? do you encapsulate the "left"? are you their poster child or something? The fact is Government is getting bigger. Its creating bigger deficits. This is not because its doing less. Its because its doing more. Just because it isnt doing more for you doesnt mean it not happening.

You think that a devout Muslim murdered innocent people because our government is getting bigger? Or because we murder innocent people? Uh, it's been getting bigger under D's and R's for the last... 300 years? And we've been murdering innocent people as a nation for... all of our history, along with every other 1st world nation. Are we supposed to alter our policies or get more conservative politically as a nation because this tragedy occurred? And how does your theory work for countries that are far more leftist, socialist, liberal than we are but have no massacres like this? Why hasn't Sweden crumbled under constant extremist attacks over it's political climate?

I don't claim to know why these nutballs did this. You don't know either. Nobody knows. For you to claim it's because our country is supposedly moving to the left is, in my opinion, complete random speculation that cannot be verified and never will be. I could claim it's because Mohammed told them to do it. Would I be right? Who knows. Who cares?

Anyway, I enjoy a good debate- no hard feelings. As I said before somewhere on this board- we are all Americans, and no matter what we believe, most of us are more good than bad and pull together to help out when we are attacked. absolutely no hard feelings. Im just trying to get my point of view across and not doing so well i fear. You will get no argument from me on the fact the that it is both Ds and Rs. Thats why the letters are meaningless to me.
Countries like sweden are far smaller with a less diverse population. And wasnt there a massacre recently in some scandanavian country. They are not immune.
And i dont think this single issue is cause, and regardless of whether or not is had been a factor, i think we need to seriously look at our foreign policy for sure. To me, through my view of what is left or right, our foreign policy is leftist. This country has borders and we should absolutely defend them. Going beyond those borders is offensive. Occupying foreign land is offensive. If any other country around the world had a military presence in this country i think people would freak the f out. By my understanding of conservatism, our presence and "influence" around this world is anything but. Perhaps thats one reason why sweden hasnt crumbled. They are not flexing their muscle around the world. I get rather irritated when i see the navy commercials that declare we are a "global force for good". Sorry, but our constitution stops at the border. My view may piss off the neo cons. Sorry.
And youre right, i have no idea why this happened. I hope they take the guy alive so we can get answers. Probably not though.
 
Just to tell you how close this was for me; my eldest son goes to UMass Dartmouth & apparently the kid they just captured also attended his school! The entire campus was evacuated early this morning and SWAT teams came in complete with Blackhawk helecopters to search the grounds, the school and especially his dorm room. It was later discovered, through an electronic swipe of his student food card, that he did go to school on Wednesday this week.

I'm glad for your son that he is now captured. I do also think that kid/man they just captured is also a kid. He will pay for his crimes against humanity I hope, but damn he is young and I wonder what is the story. What brings a kid to do these things?
 
Happy for this outcome and for the city of Boston. Good on all your law enforcement personnel who performed so well under severe threat of danger. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families of those who were killed and injured. Wish I could be there to applaud the brave men and women who brought this terrible episode to an end.
Having said this, I wonder what is next for our American friends. Y'all got some issues to deal with. Good luck, but stay tuned.
 
Good to see the first responders get the thanks and respect that they deserve. Doesn't happen very often.
 
I'm from the town next door to all the action. The place was a little creapy today, like a ghost town. Big relief here.
