My 1st B-Body: 1971 Road Runner

wow we are moving along its been awhile but your at it thanks for the updated photos :headbang:

Yes you do...

That was my old project that I've had for a few years. But as time rolls on priorities change. I used to picture myself speeding along by myself in the Bricklin.... then realized that maybe I should include my loving and supportive wife in my car fantasies. Then I realized the two I us can fit comfortably in the Bricklin for about 15 mins...

So I few months ago I tell her I'd like to get another old Mopar and sell the Bricklin. She tells me thats ok as long as she likes the car I get. My two dream cars were a 68 Charger or a 71 Road Runner. I preferred the 71, she the 68. But when we went to look at the car (just look, since I haven't sold the Bricklin) and she falls in love with 71 too.

She even told me to stop haggling with the guy and just buy it already... she's a keeper.

Nice looking car, will be watching as you progress through your build, and yes - the 71 RR is a KEEPER . . . ( or did he mean his wife ? )

Oh yeah! Another '71 Road Runner! Keep us updated on your progress.

how rusty is the charger? my 71 hit an elk and needs the entire front clip: bumper, grill halves, valance, park lights, hood, fenders, windshield. elk are very destructive when you hit them.

great bird!

Woo hoo!

Got me a parts car... this triple green rust bucket will be donating.... bucket seats, A/C dash, rallye gauge cluster, power brakes, tinted glass, windshield trim, A/C firewall section, all the A/C hoses and condenser, and if I'm lucky under the green shag carpet... some floor panel patches.

Even my Dad and his 70' Challenger will be able to use a few parts.View attachment 146458

Those fenders will bring you a few Re$to bucks as well

The front is not as bad as the back and roof.

I do have an entire clip. Pass side lower fender has the typical rust, Driver's side looks solid. Hood has some filler along the leading edge. Bumper is bent, LT grille is cracked as is the LT side marker. Valance is solid but a little dinged up.

Windshield is no good.

I'm actually hoping to do a little trading...

I'm still in dire need of a 71-72 8 3/4 rear end, a Satellite flat hood, 4 speed pedals and a standard bore 383 short block.

In a perfect world I'd love to be able face to face trade big, heavy and hard to ship parts for.... big, heavy and hard to ship parts :)

well i'm interested in valance, fenders, hood, and possibly the bumper if it is not too dented. let me know when you get it torn down and send me a few pics. i'm in no hurry, since i have a 73 to put together first lol.
thanks, brett

I've been neglecting my '71 way too long...

And spending all my time and money on my '68 Coronet 500. But not this week, I actually managed to snag a hood for my car fairly close to home. So I got up this morning and drove the couple hours to go get it.

Perfect start for an Air Grabber conversion. Its got a couple little pinholes on the bracing up front, but nothing I should be afraid of... at least if I have the courage to cut a hole it the center, drill a bunch of holes for the bubble and mod the bracing for the actuator bracket.

Heck, I'm just glad I don't have to stare at the gaping hole anymore.

Nothing wrong with playing with the 68 and congrats on your find! Good luck, its hard to find those parts!!!

Good luck on your resto. She'll be a beauty when completed.

Nice! I'm working on one myself. Fun project now that more parts a coming available. Looking forward to following your progress!

I got me a repop Air Grabber bubble and door today.

What do you guys think? This is the 4th option, after expensive original, PGs expensive and by all accounts, crappy repop, Stinger Fiberglass' decent part. I bought this off of eBay from a company that has all there stuff made down in Mexico, in a factory I'm sure would make an OSHA inspector faint.

It seems to be a decent part... the scoop fits the bubble pretty well, and the bubble fits the hood nicely up front although all 4 mounting pegs in the back are too tall and will have to be whittled down about a 1/4".

Its got all of the pegs for the studs molded in, as well as ribs across the underside for strength. The scoop looks a lot nicer that he one on Stinger's website.

It needs some smoothing and blocking.... and it will need some work up front because the bodyline in the center front isn't very defined.

It was about $450 shipped and was delivered to me in about two weeks.

I gave up trying to find a real one... I've had half a dozen people on Moparts offer me an original... and every single one flaked out as soon as I asked for pics. Plus, dropping a grand a battered, cracked original... then spending hours and hours repairing and making it look nice, only to drop it on a clone seems like wasted effort.

my sentiments exactly...when I was thinking of going that direction, I found a few that ppl were asking $1500 w/ broken studs and beat up. Seems like you got a really good deal-congrats!
