Hi guys just thought I would put some pics up of what i'm working on. Its my first engine rebuild. A 1968 440 factory forged crank, .455 lift purple cam, and pre 70 style silvo-lite flat top pistons on 440 source rods. I had the rotating assembly balanced. The shop used welding to add weight instead of mallory metal. The weld has a little high and I ran into some clearance issues. But so far all my bearing and ring clearances have been just perfect. Just hope I don't run into issues with the bobweight and bottom of piston clearance with the added weld weight.

Shiny!

I just painted my newly machined block and I'm preparing for re-assemlby as well.

That is some tight clearance....hope its all good!

Ya I was told that 0.050 thou clearance is a rule of thumb for the rotating assembly with the block. It is about 0.070 after grinding.

.070" should be plenty. Looks like a nice street build. I really like that cam and I think you will too.

That's good to hear Meep-Meep, Just taking my time and making sure its done right. My setup is with 346 iron heads with a mild blend job. With a dual plane intake and an 850 thermoquad. I'm hoping it will produce around 380 horsepower and 450 torque. Does this sound about right for the combo?

Looks like a nice start... What's she going into ??

Did you grind the weld? Maybe it shows were you ground in the photo, but I'm on my phone looking at your post. It does look like they plugged the hole with weight and welded it in place..... I hope you cleared the block and not the weld on the crank!
I just looked closer.... Looks like you touched up the crank weld..... As you probably already know, you will disturb the balance by grinding the crank counter weights.

Ya i know, it was just a very small amount where there was a high spot on the weld. The machinist who did it told me it wouldn't make a huge difference. I am aware that it affects the balance though. It was like 10 seconds with a grinder. I didnt have a lot of choice because it contacted where the oil pickup was. I didn't want to cut through the block there.

Its going into my 87 dodge ram it already has mickey thompson et. streets and an 8 3/4 diff. Just need the power-plant now.

Looks like a nice start on a cool build. Ron

Yeah engine **** woot! going to make that ram well a ram! lol nice motor good luck with it.

I had one clearance issue rod at oil boss, a little grinding and all clear :)

Awesome,,,, can't wait to hear how it runs! Video clips are a must... LOL!:hello2:

More progress

So I got all the slugs in this week. No real issues so far with anything. I was worried about the aftermarket rod clearances. But just one rod side clearance a bit out of spec by a few thou.
Went to put my oil pump drive gear in and the bushing is too tight. My guess is the machine shop didn't use the special tool. Here are some pics of the short block. More engine ****. ;-)
