My BUDGET 451 build... finally

Looks like we will have almost twin cars! Mine is a GTX but same colors and hood. Good move on the headers, mine is going to be broke in on the dyno so that'll save me switching them out twice. Looking good there! BTW my motor is IQ52's trick flows on 440 just a few threads below here.

Oh yeah, I have definitely been following that build. Those heads and intake are sooo sweet, man. Yeah, I'm sure glad I read the instructions on those headers lol (I mean, who even knew they had instructions?) I've seen what happens when they're used for break in, while they still look better than my old headers, the finish really does get messed up.

Also, I was talking to a buddy of mine who is into Harleys - he said with those ceramic coatings, you need to wipe the headers down with acetone before first firing them up or even a fingerprint will be permanently embedded.

Good info on the headers... I am still waffling between TTI and Doug's, but the fingerprint deal would piss me off.

Yeah don't ask me how I learned that lesson on my dragbike.

Btw - I read your performance goals - 11.5's stock-ish idle, etc. Couldnt agree with you more - good performance, 100% streetable and durable combo - our goals are just about spot on, though your heads / Jim's tuning will put you way ahead of me. I think there have been about half dozen guys that have contributed their builds to this thread; all of us are somewhere in the same vicinity but all did it a different way. Very cool.

Wait, I guess it's been a while since I read your 69GTX thread. DAMN, i missed out on his port work and that big ol solid roller lol. My build is definitely your build's baby brother. That thing is gonna be a BEAST.

Engine is in and almost ready to fire. Just need to clean up / reroute some wiring, wrap the engine harness and fill the radiator and wrap up a few loose ends like throttle springs, spark plug wires, etc. Who knows... might fire it up this weekend. Oh, and I have a battery relocate kit on order, so I didn't bother repainting the old battery tray...

Oh, and I have to siphon out the old 'regular' fuel that the 413 drank and pour in some premium for the new girl.

Awesome, glad to hear the beast come to life!

Bet your pumped! Sounds great.... Now let's see a burnout!

keep in mind that some things aren't listed because I already had them... like the carb, air cleaner, fan, fan clutch and pulleys, flex plate, ignition, some other stuff...

So I'm in for $4,327.86 into the motor minus $550 from parting out the 413...

So we're looking at $3,777.86 cash out of pocket for a stout, aluminum headed, street 451. I'll take that.

Good work. Get it to the drag strip so we can calculate the HP. How far are you from Atco dragstrip? I was out there in Sept. What was your initial timing set at, 18-20 ?

I guess I'm about hour / hour and a half from Atco I think. I'm hoping to bring it to Island Dragway, maybe visit the NENDRA guys that are on this board (bobtile, SSR). It's in northern jersey (Hackettstown area) and maybe 30 minutes from me.

Boy you got it made only 30 mins. to the strip! It's about a hour for me which still isn't to bad.

I'm definitely spoiled, and to think here in NJ (regulation hell) we still have 3 tracks within easy driving distance.
