I remember changing out that nylon gear on my. 1966 383 in 1978.

So I just ran the compression test on my car. Cylinder #1 90psiYou need to do a compression check, but first I would take out #1 plug and bring the piston to TDC on the compression stroke . If the engine never jumped timing , everything should be lined up on crank dampner and indicator or very close . Then remove dist cap and see if rotor is pointing at #1 plug wire .
