I had a Frankenteen build thread over at FABO. It seems to have disappeared. I will post it again here and give my recipe for what I call a budget "dirt road" build. This is going in my 83 D150.

1986 318 short block, .030 over with used .030 over flat top four eyebrow pistons. Moly rings, rebuilt used oil pump with the MP high pressure spring. I got the rods off Ebay. They are NOS TRW remanufactured rods with new rod bolts, resized and weight matched. Saturngroup is the name of the seller. You can get those same rods still for stupid cheap. Like 75 bucks....less I think with shipping. I know. It was stupid so I pounced. lol

I got a crank kit from Advance for 165 bucks. I was lucky and got a .010/.010 crank and bearing kit. For the bumpstick, I went with a Lunati 60403. I like Harold Brookshire's mind with cam lobes. He is a legend genius. I decided that since I was using the stock pistons, the only way I would have any power was going to be through some small chamber heads. A friend gave me some Magnum castings in great condition that required only lapping the valves in. I had the heads milled to produce a blueprinted 9.2:1.

I used these valve springs: http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/...OSk=&level1=VmFsdmUgU3ByaW5ncw==&partid=10280

These retainers: http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/...ZXJzLCBMb2NrcyAmIEFjY2Vzc29yaWVz&partid=23197

These locks: http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/...ZXJzLCBMb2NrcyAmIEFjY2Vzc29yaWVz&partid=25636

A Crosswind (knockoff air gap) intake all put together with stock rockers.

Here is Frankenteen so far. Like I said, it's a budget build so don't laugh too hard.

Oh, I forgot something. You might notice I am running old style valve covers on Magnum heads. The five bolt holes line right up with five holes in the Magnum heads. BUT, unless you use the right gaskets, you WILL have a leak since the heads are indeed shaped differently. Here are the gaskets you need to make it happen.

No, they ain't cheap. But, they are the LAST valve cover gaskets you'll ever buy cause they're steel cored and reusable. So far, they are the only gaskets I know of that will make it happen. I credit my good friend Rodney Byrd for turning me on to that secret.

Sounds good to me and nothing wrong with a budget build. I consider the 440 in my 66 Belvedere to be one.

All of mine are budget builds. I'm not cutting any corners on my 383, BUT it's gonna take a while. It's crazy. I think about how I was in the 80s. I bet I built probably 8-9 engines a year for various things....my stuff, friends stuff, customers stuff and it was easy man, you know? Now there's barely enough money to do anything with and it takes so long. Anyway, thanks for the kind words. Rodney and I are thinkin over 300 HP for sure.....it doesn't really matter, it's just a number, but still it'll be fun. I know with that size cam, it's not what most would call a truck motor, but I wanted something that would have some nasty to it. lol

looks fine to me and will make some good power about 200 hp above stock I would imagine.

Thanks, Cliff. Thanks for the kind words fellers. I see the thread has been resurrected on FABO. I am glad. I think it is a good build and others might can benefit from it.

Rob I will be happy to transfer info over there to it if you like.

Your Frankenteen thread is back over at FABO again so you might want to copy what needs to be off it and move it over here just in case it gets trashed again.

Indeed. I need to see if I can copy/paste it and save it to a file. Thanks.

Those look like Ford 351 Cleveland rockers. Is that timing chain tensioner stock? Looks like it might me and it also looks like it will bolt onto an early 70's 360.

They sorta do resemble phord rockers......blastphemy that that was. lol

Yes, the tensioner came on all 3.9 V6s and some Magnum motors as well. Yes, it will fit ALL LA blocks. That's what mine is. It's an 83 model, which is the same in the timing cover area as a 273, 340 or 360. Cloyes makes them whether they come in a Dynagear, Cloyes or Mopar box. Dynagear is no more, since Cloyes bought them out. The timing chain is also a Cloyes true roller. Not them cheap split rollers.

Congrads!
Innovative, to say the least!
Nice engine build...
You MUST be a KOOL guy!
