My "Free" 68 Road Runner

"Late 50's early 60's? dodge pickup - sitting"

IF you get a chance to snap a picture, i wouldn't mind seeing!
Maybe not Mopar but if those 3 Late 50's early 60's? chevy pickups were there, they would be worth a look to, Trucks can make a great project to do some wheeling/dealing for another vehicle, there is a lot of love for trucks anymore and the older the better most of the time, lol, I have two son in laws both who want nothing to do with cars but trucks! look out, i like them myself but just cant afford all those irons in the fire...

Awesome find man. Gotta love those dry weather cars! Mine spent its life in Arizona only rot was in the obligatory lower quarters. Subscribed.

I got to say it was a good day. :)

A quick washing. An unimaginable amount of dirt came off the bottom of this thing. It's still absolutely filthy under it.

Great stuff.Good to see that bird is on it's way to a better fate.
Personally,I like the old patina look.If it were mine,I'd get the mechanicals and interior back in shape and drive it as is.

So many people have told me to keep the patina'd look. We will see.

Im not saying to do it but man, truthfully with the pictures, i think i would be thinking it! New gloss paint is cool but for a year or two, i think i could live with the "Patina" look if nothing else to tell the story of you getting this ole bird, it is pretty cool!!!!

lus side is no worries about scratches, chips while you're out having fun with it. The VW guys are all over the patina look.

that is a great story and the car looks good as well, you have a car that many people would love to own, restore it and enjoy the car.

I only get to work on this thing for a couple hours a week right now since it's not in my driveway on account that I don't have a driveway. So last week was spent basically getting the area and car ready to be worked on. I got the hood and fenders mounted, mostly, and the garage space sorted for keeping parts safe inside instead of in the trunk of the car. As soon as my lease is up at my apartment (which I thought was November but it looks like it'll be January) I'll be renting a house with a garage so I'll be able to work on it inside and the sun won't be scrambling my brain.

Today's little adventure involved removing the seats and the carpet to survey the extent of rust. I have to say that it's still looking very solid.

Got the front seat out.
IMAG0376_zps5aaaadac.jpg

Good look at the carpet. I thought it was a rubber floor but it was just so matted down by the elements that it didn't feel like carpet.
IMAG0377_zps3fe31334.jpg

The front seat isn't in too bad a shape considering but it needs to be redone.
IMAG0379_zps6009ab4e.jpg

None of the springs are rotted and the mount just has some surface rust where it meets the carpet.
IMAG0378_zps649360dd.jpg

Got the carpet up and most of the padding out. As it sits now the padding tears out in little pieces since it's fused to the floor, any tips on getting it out?
IMAG0380_zpsb666575f.jpg

Close up of the passenger side. It's not to bad and the drivers side is even nicer.

Under the back seat where the rats lived... and pooped. This pic shows 1/10th the amount of rat poo that was back there.

Quick question about my front turn signals. These, I believe, are the ones that mount in the front bumper. Why are they blue? I can't find a single picture online of the lenses being blue, only amber or clear. They have a Chrysler stamp and part number on them.
IMAG0384_zpsc12c3dcb.jpg

it's a great score just having that front seat, tore up or not. Good deals on seat can be found, but the cost of shipping usually kills the deal, so you're already ahead of the game. Floors look pretty solid, another plus. I'd say get in there with a scraper, maybe wet the padding down? Never seen blue turn signals. and getting to work a couple hours is way better than not at all!

To remove that hairy stuff you can try a paint removal disk in a drill. They have them in any home center. They are black disks about 1/2 " thick with a stud in the middle that you can fit into your electric drill. Unlike a wire brush they shouldn't get clogged and they will clean the hardened glue off pretty good too.

This is very very true. :beerchug:

I wish I remembered to bring the signals home. I wanted to clean them up and see what I could find. I'll run and grab them tomorrow.

I just hate you! First you find a Roadrunner project, equipped and in the condition I would sell my soul for( I had a new 68 RR 2 dr hdtp similar equipment) And now you say you don't want to work outside in that hot January sun. I am from Iowa where we have REAL Winters. I told myself I was not going to read any more posts about your project----but I can't help it!!!!
Seriuosly, keep us posted on your progress and let me know if you want to sell it 8-) ...........MO

I'm sorry, lol.

As for me not wanting to keep working in the sun, the problem with the sun out here, even in the "winter" months where it dips into the 50's, is that there is no relief from it. Clouds in the sky are a rare sight. So even when the air is crisp, the sun on your head makes you dizzy and dehydrated quickly. And I didn't grow up out here, I know about REAL winters. I lived my first 30 years in Michigan. Salt, rust, -30* wind chill, a foot of snow on the ground, shoveling your car out of the snow in the morning only to come back after work and shovel again so you can park.

Also the car won't be for sale in the foreseeable future, it would break the previous owners heart. It was her son's car and he passed away a few years ago. She's more anxious to see it put back together than I am.

she's home

That says it all there bud, If your like so many of us you probably cant sleep as well with this old girl setting there! I wish you the best with getting it road worthy in any way you may going, it really looks nice the way it is but the fun will start now!

imho, she looks like nobody gave a crap about her for a long, long, looooooooong time. patina, baweena. make her shine like a new penny. you'll be glad you did.
