My "Free" 68 Road Runner

imho, she looks like nobody gave a crap about her for a long, long, looooooooong time. patina, baweena. make her shine like a new penny. you'll be glad you did.

Glad to see it's finally in your possession. The first chapter of this story was exciting enough that it will be hard to top. Good luck on the restoration.
 
The blue turn signal mystery has been solved. The lenses had been sprayed with some kind of blue tint. A little scrubbing with soap and hot water removed the majority of it. Then the stubborn areas came clean with a little rubbing alcohol. They still have a very light blue tint to them but they glow mostly amber now.
 
Get yourself a good stiff putty scraper and a shop vac to clean the floor up. Then use a disc or wire brush should take care of the rest of it.

being careful around the raised text areas, you can polish the plastic as if it were paint and completely remove the blue. Use some 1000 grit sandpaper and water, and then plastic polish.

You might also have decent results by soaking for a bit with brake fluid which will lift the paint but leave the plastic untouched.
 
I kinda went against Stevearino's advice, kinda. I got a wire brush for my angle grinder and went to town. It tore through all the leftover padding and any rust in it's way.

Also if you look closely you can see a number of holes punched through the floor boards where it looks like bucket seats were mounted.

How to you remove the metal shields along the door sills that protect the wiring to the rear of the car? I don't see any screws or anything. I'd like to remove them and clean under them before I por-15 the floor.

I've got the factory bench seat for it. I'm getting it reupholstered.
 
nice to see your keeping it a real roadrunner to many peolpe putting in buckets where they dont belong and your car was built in july8 68 thats why you have a hard top all early roadrunners where 2 door post car
 
All you can do with the metal shields for the wire is just remove by cutting, bending back and forth or however you can. then when you've got them clean the way you like 'em, just tack weld them back in place.
 
Awe man, I was hoping I just wasn't seeing the screws holding it on. Welding them is no problem, but screws would have been simpler.
 
that looks good,man you are off to a great start those floors looks good,take your time and do a good job with every section you work on.i would keep as original as i can.
 
after all you went thru to get that car, you didn't think it was gonna get simple now did you?
 
I just drilled out the spot welds on the tabs of the metal shields. Then when you put them back you can tac weld them or you could tap some self threading screws and screw them back on.
 
Your floors look great, this is one of the cleanest cars ive ever seen when looking at it the way it was when you found it, You have a lot to be proud of and even with the things you have to do ill bet your having fun fixing this old gal up again...

Hell I don't think 1 beer has even been spilled in that car, the pans are too clean.
Maybe it was owned by a little old lady that used it to get groceries on Tuesdays????
