Hey guys my names mitch I just joined and recently bought my second car that being a 69 satellite.. Its a 318 car and have a chance at getting a good deal on a built 400 will it fit if I get new mounts?
That k frame should be the same so yes. But there are other issues. A small block tranny will not bolt to a big block. And your radaitor will probably have the hose on the wrong side. You should be able to save the radiator if you find a water pump from a truck. It has the opposite as a car. Cant think of anything else off the top of my head but ive been up for about 31 hrs so i maybe off
The 318 radiator MAY have a tough time cooling a 400 engine depending on how hot it gets in the summer where you live and how you drive the car. Also I'm not sure about the differential, whether Ma used that lightweight diff in the B body cars or not. My 318Barracuda had the lightweight tranny and the lightweight differential in it so when I put the 340 in it it wasn't too long before the tranny gave up the ship, then I fractured the spider gears in the differential 300 miles from home but was able to limp it to within 20 miles of home until it completely froze up and wouldn't move.
Mitch, Welcome to the B-Body site.. Sounds like a real nice car.. The 400 sounds good but there are some alternatives for more HP, If you put a Eddy intake and carb on it, add some headers you might be surprised at what you have, I thought about it myself but im saving the 400 for something else, Just a suggestion to give you some added HP and a nice sound without maybe changing a trans or rear end.. Just my opinion, ive tried it both ways and this way, i found to be as much fun without 1./2 the "possible" troubles. JMO... Good luck with it, its your ride, be happy with it!
