My new to me 64 Polara

Man, shame you are getting rid of the '66 :( And Detroit muscle is bout 6 miles away from me... good parts and shipping times

I know, the 66 has been a great car. It has never left me stranded. It is fun to drive and has made it to many out of state car shows since I have owned it. I will hate to see it go bit it's time. The 64 will be a nice replacement. It's something I have wanted for years. It might be the last Mopar I own.

yeah... it's weird how you can fall out of love with a car.. or just have it too long.. my 71 challenger i had for like 8 years... i just bout gave it away in the end.. just meh.. i'm done. really wish i had kept that one.. and most of the others :)

Should have kept them all but I only have room (and funds for 2) In fact I have found with 2 I don't drive either one enough to justify owning them. If I get this 64 in a comfortable condition, I may sell the Swinger as well. A real nice car and it shows well and is admired by many but I don't have any attachment to it.

Yeah, that 64 is my all time favorite mopar... and it's even better when not hot rodded, the trim is perfect, that roofline makes the car and the taillights are a great design

Hey guys, I got my dash pad today from ABC Moparts. Nice stuff. I see the clips they use are door panel clips. Is that what you all are using or would some plastic "Christmas tree" style clips work better (and easier)

Well, I got her running. A little wiring clean up and a 4 pin ECU instead of a 5. I printed out 4 different wiring diagrams and only 1 made sense for an old system. Now I will try my hand at the dash pad. (If I have enough patience)

And may be I'll adjust the valves. I don't mind a little clatter though. It gives it character. Like my 273. It's a little noisy cold and quiets down when it warms up. Perfect.

I found this schematic to work on my 64. The start position wire from the switch feeds the coil directly. When you let off the key, the power feed goes through the ballast in the run position.

Oh, another little fix I did was to raise the choke thermostat in the intake. I got a sheet of header gasket material and cut out some gaskets. There is no adjustment for the rod length for more choke closing. It worked well. Just enough length for the choke butterfly to close all the way. Hey, when you're having starting issues, everything has to work as designed.

Hey Mike, what carburetor is that? Looks nothing like any that I’ve seen on any 318 that I ever had. Mighty fine looking Polara, early Bs are my favorites.

It's a Holley. I don't know where it came from for sure. It seems to work well.

I need to check the shocks. The front one are getting replaced for sure. I think one doesn't have any fluid (or gas) left. It bounces real wonky going down the road. The bushings are cracked and over sprayed. It was painted in 17'. I need to look closer at the rears. I looked underneath before I bought it and the 8 3/4 looked like it had new springs. I didn't pay attention to the shocks. They may be new or old and crusty.

Thinking back to my first everyday 64 2dr poly, it had a newer carter carb I went through and it was great . Unbelievable mileage. Then my daughters D100 318, put a good 84 D150 holley on. Runs great as well.
Did you adjust the valves? You can do it running by sound lol

No valve adjustment yet. I may have to check them sometime. It doesn't rattle too bad and quiet's down a bit when warmed up. No engine miss so they must be close. I need to video the taol pipe sound when warm. It runs pretty smooth.

If it's good it's good! But there's only a couple bolts holding the cover on lol. And they're barrel locks.
I think the base rpm was 475-500 . They were smoothe

I was messing with the wiring and ignition to fix starting issues. I replaced the distributor and set the initial at 10° and messed with the idle mixture. I'll throw a vacuum gauge on it and adjust from there. It's interesting, their design sounds different than a LA at idle.

Yes they're a more solid large heavy cast version. They have a ton of vacuum if running well. A sturdier version of the LA
