My take on For Sale threads

i'm 50/50 on this,, i dont mind, some people (newbies) get wind of this site when there father etc pass,, and they are left with his cars,, and then post it here(sometimes) so good deals, and good projects can be found.. some sellers WANT to know what we think its worth,, then the reality hits them,,, then you can watch their prices drop,, the drop,, then drop again.... there s a few on there now..... if you dont like the AD,, skip it.... if the seller wants feedback,, give it to him!! tough love is cruel sometimes,, grow up i say to them!!

I tend to agree that posters in the for sale section should be active members of the board. Also that we should be able to comment on the for sale thread, good or bad. If you don't like the comments, say so. Were all big boys here, right.

Most Forum Dont allow commentary in the forsale ad's Hell on Dodge charger .com only the thread started of an ad can post in that ad. Us as moderators have way to much to do already , and contrary to popular believe we are not paid . We are here for the love of mopars and want to be around our mopar brothers . Forsale ad's can get negitive very fast and its not far to the seller to lock his thread and have to start a new one. If the ad is over priced dont buy , easy as that . The seller will figure it out and adjust his price or move on . Hell I had two of my cars for sale for two years , they both just recently sold . In this economy you have to find the right buyer or decide how much of a loss you can take . If you feel strongly you need to tell a seller info or educate them you are more then welcome to send them a PM . I doubt seriously it will change many of the sellers minds though . Flippers will be flippers its comes with the car hobby just ignore them and lets have fun and enjoy the board and our hobby .

Nice take on it and very eloquently put. :)

I want to be able to comment though on the garbage from the flippers....hahahaha
I think that's our god given right as actual mopar enthusiasts to be able to let someone know when they are out of line in our "space".

Now there I'm in full agreement with you. When I bought my 74 road runner earlier this year, the guy had been trying to sell it for months, and I explained to him what the market for his car really was. I did this to educate the guy, but also because there are many places to catch crap from. How many of us have sold something only to have some family member, friend, or co-worker tell us what fools we were selling at such a low price. I would bet all of us. I paid a fair price for the shape the car was in, and if his Dad or anyone else bitched at him for being taken, he could educate them on the difference between getting good money for a car and having nothing but a yard ornament for an overpriced car. :)

I'll even go one step further and say we have an obligation as Subject Matter Experts (SME) to educate these folks. I think we're doing a favor to someone who's selling something that's overpriced or not-authentic by telling them why no one is lining up to buy what they are selling. I understand that some folks can get sarcastic and use personal criticism instead of objective analysis, but speaking for myself, I would rather have someone write "hey moron, that part your selling for $40 can be bought new for $20" than have me waste my time constantly bumping a for sale item over and over again and wondering why no one is interested.

Car like that Charger are why they have the dreaded given nick-name Mostly Overpriced Parts Always Rusty... people who think their parts/cars **** is worth gold, but also won't pay **** for anyone elese's parts or cars...

or maybe Mainly Old Parts And Rust

Lately there have been a number of POS dumped in the for sale section by new members who joined simply to try and sell their heap to a b-body fan. I take offence to this. I would like to see a person be a member and contribute to the site and the rest of the members before trying to unload their crap. This isn't a dumping ground or a place to make a quick buck flipping ****-boxes. I see stuff posted that is way over priced and mis-represented and it makes me angry thinking that someone views this site as a junk yard profit center.

Really well put, 99. Those one-timers bug me just as much as the other one-timers who join to ask a tech question, get a dozen detailed answers, and don't say boo in thanks and are never seen again. But I agree, the best way to let 'em know that we know they're trying to offload crap here is to say nothing at all about their POS4SALE ad. They can exit as they entered - in darkness and silence. :icon_fU:

But writing these kinds of ads can be a lot of fun:

Dodge Charger with the SUPER RARE black and yellow combo. Currently not running. Some rust. May need brakes. $14,000 firm. :icon_mrgreen:

I think we should be able to comment....not trash, but comment. It could keep a newbie from making an expensive mistake.

If you feel the need a private message would be appropriate. I,m not for minimum post standards as I have bought nice items from low posters before.I would rather wade thru than miss out.

I am finding in general, a lot of people are selling their junk for way too much money. There is a guy on CL in my area that says because he can part his coronet out for 15k that his car is worth 15k. Ummm not really bud.

There is a 72 Dart Swinger that is in a junkyard in decent shape. I gave out a fair market offer on the car and they want twice my offer. So rather than sell the car, they will crush the car because they wanted more money. Their mentality is probably that they wouldn't want me to try and flip the car for more money.

Thats fine, but the one post wonders always just post a email or phone number and never return. Then the mods delete the pertinant info and you end up with a useless ad.

On the last post I commented on, all I did was point out that the car in question was overpriced because it was not a premium model. Just a 383 instead of a 440, no fresh air hood and the like. Then I end up with an "infraction" I guess because the OP of the thread got his panties in a wad and complained. I wasn't ugly or a smartass. I just told it like it was because a lot of people might not have known all that. If it takes getting infractions to help look out for my friends here then so be it.
