Mystery Wire - help

Hi I am putting mt car back together ans have an unidentified wire. As per photo it's the black one plugged in below the starter cables (being pointed at with the spanner). I have no idea where it goes. Maybe transmission? From memory it used to be coiled around one of the torsion bars by the previous owner. Thanks for any help.

Looks like it’s a neutral safety switch wire. What type of car is it going on and is it a automatic?

Yes it's an auto, that sounds promising, I'll have a look under the car in the morning
