Naming the car.....Who has done this?

I've been thinking , hell even some of my carry guns have names. Like "santa's little helper"

I'm still undecided on the name for the red car.
I do like Charlene but it doesn't quite feel as satisfying as the names that I have given the other cars.

My wife named her Grand Am Sybil after the movie....it fits.

Never named my cars, but I drove a rusted out 1970 1/2 Ford Falcon (Torino) 4 Dr while I was in college that earned the nickname the UEV - Urban Eyesore Vehicle.

I always figured if I named any of my vehicles they might talk back. Maybe I watched too many Roy Rogers shows.

Most of mine get names over the years they earn them ! Some come quick some take many years .
My first car got a name the second time I owned it her name was Betty! Oh black Betty....
My deuce and a half was called Helga.... She was big and ugly and you didn't mess with her!
My 440 4 speed 72 was named the monster! Because it was loud and scary and ate lots of gas! (This wasn't my doing but it stuck)
My 64 300k convertible doesn't have a name ! Everyone trys but nothing suite's it!

Then there's my current daily driver !
The 07 super bee!
You would think a cool name would emerge for a srt8 beast ! But the baby (little over 1 1/2) has named this car before I could at first it was just ,nanner then baa naa naaa
Then banana was solid for awhile then she learned racing and put it in front
Its now the racing banana! And sadly I think it stuck we've been on that for awhile and she has learned many new words since!
Oh well !
The 72 rallye in garage hasn't gotten a chance to be named but it has many bad Nick names!!!

So with a new threat to everyone a name popped up and I think it's more fitting then the racing banana!

Some names just hit you as soon as you see the car. I almost bought a 69 Coronet a few years back. As soon as I saw the pictures, she was immediately Charlotte. Alas, I never bought the car.

Only a few of my vehicles have gotten names, usually not by me, the rest are just called what they are, the orange car, the GTX, the Hornet. The few exceptions:

My first Road Runner back in high school '70 440 6 brl 4 speed was called Fred because one night I passed a semi with oncoming traffic and my friend in the front seat was freaking out yelling "Go Fred Go!" Why, I can't tell you but the name stuck.

The Harley that I built about 10 years ago. Loud, fast, kick start only and I was the only one that could start it. She was temperamental and ironically, the only vehicle that I have ever considered female. My friends called her the Black Bitch for obvious reasons.

My current '72 Road Runner, rough 70's custom, big block, 4 speed. It's been nicknamed The Bender Car because it's what John Bender from the Breakfast Club movie would have driven.

Ok, as for my own - I've never been one to name cars. For some reason, it reminds me
of what my dad used to say about animals:
"Never name something that you may not want to keep."
So...when something gets named around here, it means it's never going away!

There have been exceptions. It took a lot of years, but my '04 Ram has more than earned
it's room and board around here; I'll have it long after everything else has passed.
I bought it back new, just "had" to have one of those new-fangled hemi's you know...
Come to find out, a single cab SWB 4x4 hemi is a rare critter and many have tried to buy her
in the years hence.
I present "Ol' Keeper" or just plain "Keeper":

Ok, now to the '68 GTX you all know and are sick of reading about....
There's a bit of an ongoing debate between the wife and I over naming it that started one
day, when she made note that I sometimes refer to the car as "he" and other times as "she".
I simply informed her that at times over the last decade or so, the GTX has shown both sides of its'
personality - so whatever fits at the moment, I called it.

I'll let you guys decide the name. Here's the two options:
1. Wife insists it be called "Gertrude" because it reminds her of a lady who's rather "less refined" and kind of
big-boned and sailor-mouthed, but tries to look all pretty and sexy like a lady anyways.
I can see her point.

2. My entry into the name contest for the GTX is simply "Fred". Images of Fred Mertz from the I Love Lucy show
and/or Fred, Jerry Reed's dog in Smoky and the Bandit come to mind - along with every single Fred I've ever
known in life:
Kinda rough around the edges, a little surly/grumpy, but very matter-of-fact and ready to pack mule the load
every time. One of those kinds that will surprise you with a bitingly hilarious one-liner out of the blue once in
a while and will break out of character for just a second to wink at you like you're in on the joke.

I remember when I came up with the name...
One of those mornings back years ago when I slowly made my way out to the garage to work on the GTX
(while recuperating from whatever cancer surgery it was at the time).
I stepped in the door and hit the light switch by the door and looked over at the GTX, in pieces scattered
all over, the result of the latest project the car had been fighting me over stubbornly.
I sighed, still sore from the previous nights' wrasslin' and muttered "ok, Fred, we gonna do this today or what?"

It just seemed natural that a)by that point, I was talking to the car (!) and b)that the name "Fred" just came
out my mouth without even thinking about it.
Never said I was sane.
I present Fred/Gertrude - y'all decide the winner!

My youngest son named it Big Blue.

My oldest son names this one Dart Vader years ago.

And my wife calls this her Creep Wagon.
