Just bought the 63 Polara, it has a 426 wedge and am trying to decode heads and engine block casting#'s.
Driver's side head reads: 28439 8 8 (not positive on the 8's)
Pax side reads: 04249
Is it possible to have two different casting #'s or am I just misreading them?
Motor is supposed to be 1969 industrial 426, haven't found casting # yet.

Never mind.......it is the 906 heads.

I have a car that the previous owner dropped a '78 360 motor in. How do I tell which heads I have? You say you have the 906 heads - how did you determine that?

The head casting numbers are on top of one of the port runners. You have to take the valve cover off and they are easier to see once the rockers are off but it can be seen with them on but just harder.

I still had the ph# of the guy I bought my car from so I contacted him. He said the heads on my 360 are the original ones from 1978. I gotta ditch those suckers! It's got an edelbrock performer single plane manifold and mild cam, so I might as well think about upgrading the cam while I'm at it...
