need hel id'ing drive train

hi all, pretty new to mopars, picked up a project, this engine and trans came with it, seller said it was a 273, but casting number says 318, nothing stamped on pad where vin should be,replacement engine maybe?also trans and rear end?...still learning here, different animal than what I am used to

thanks for all the info...looks like 2806030 273.. I assume it is a 273, building this car for my wife, don't know much about these engines?. is it worth building for a mild/little more than mild street car?,she also wants a 4 speed..looks like a 7.25 rear end, guessing that probably has to go.

Looks like carter carb. You can build up that motor a bit, some here may disagree and say put in a 340 or 360, but you can get more performance out of it. Regarding the rear end, it depends how much you are going to abuse it, and with a manual trans and higher horse power, might not be a bad idea to go with something bigger.

72 Satellite 2 door, she wants a roadrunner clone, sorta... LOL

That looks like a fun project! If I had something like that I would go big block and 8-3/4 rear end, but big block requires some changes to the k-frame and/or engine mounts. Also, if this is an auto car and converting to manual, there may be some changes to the trans tunnel for the manual trans conversion.
