Hi All,

I posted a few weeks ago about a 1968 Charger I just bought with a numbers matching original 225 Slant 6 with a 3-speed on the tree. I'm in the middle of the restoration, and having a hard time finding all trans linkage parts. My transmission is an A745 three speed heavy duty trans, and I need to find all parts and attaching hardware from trans to upper steering column.

I've looked around online and at junk yards, but it seems to be a hard find. I think I may be able to go to a 69 Charger or Dart, but I'm not sure yet if all the parts are the same. I know the old Dodge trucks are close, but not an exact match.

You guys have been a great help so far. I appreciate any help you can give here.

Take care,
Rob

I might be able to help you. I will be converting my 70 RR from a three on the tree to a floor shifter. I have all the linkage I don't know what differences there would be.

That may work. Do you know if it's an A745 3-speed? I did a quick search and it looks like the Road Runner may have had it. Would you be willing to send some pictures of the linkage? Also, I see you're in Oceanside. I'm an active duty Marine, so those are familiar stomping grounds! I bet the weather is nice there. Always is.

Talk to you soon, and thanks for responding.

Rob, I hate to break it to you, but the 745 ain't the heavy duty three speed. The A230 is the heavy duty unit. The 745 is the little bitty joker with the top loader plate. Not that there's anything wrong with it. It'll hold up fine behind a slant (maybe), plus if that's what it came with, you'll wanna keep it.

Thanks for the reply. Are you sure it wasn't called a heavy duty? I double checked online and this is what I found:

In 1961, a heavy duty version of this transmission was introduced and carried the name A-745. The A-745 was used in taxi and police slant six applications as well as most larger V8 applications (361,383,413) and 100 and 200 series trucks. Contrary to what was published in the Mopar Chassis Manual, The A-745 was not replaced by the A-903. They were used concurrently as the standard and heavy duty counterparts through 1971.

Thanks brother, I just found a place that sells used transmissions in Alabama. They had all the linkage for $250. I appreciate you looking into it. Good luck with the Road Runner!

was this what you were looking for or is there more to it?

I have the Three on the Tree linkage from my 67 if that helps...... I'm not partial to it, so I would sell them if anyone needs them.
