Im going to be purchasing a 511 short block out of a 400 either from Indy or Muscle motors.
Heads are going to be the Indy EZ with max wedge ports and valves.
Cam will be either Hughes or Bullitt with around 260 duration at .50 and between 610 and 633 mechanical.
Induction will be Indy tunnel ram. With 2x4 top.
I have never ran a tunnel ram. Not sure what cfm carbs I need. Should I run vacuum or mechanical secondary?

what will it be used for ?? street/strip or strip only ??
how much do the heads flow & at what lift ??
what kind of trans converter gears etc. ?? allot more to picking a carb than just a cam, intake & heads

I'm a Holley/Quickfuel guy all the way...
what did your engine builder recommend ??

CI X RPM divided by 3456 = appr. Carb. CFM

example 511ci X 7000rpm diveded by 3456 = 1035cfm at about an (0.80) 80% efficiency rate {pretty std. base}

Will be used mainly for the street. May see a couple of trips to a drag strip.
4 speed car. Has Dana 60 with 4.56 posi. I was going to ask Russ at Indy but I wanted to ask here also. I like getting real world knowledge and some one may be running lose to the sam set up. Car should weigh about 3300 pounds

we run a 499 in my buddies dart with an indy tunnel ram 325-1's. we put 750 vacuum carbs on it, runs well street and strip.

talk to Patrick at prosystems he will build you 2 custom carbs for not much more than an off the shelf unit, great quality too

I've never run one before myself, I do plan to though. I have a buddy who loves tunnel rams and he swears by the Holley 660 center squirters. Those are THE tunnel ram carbs to run from what I understand.

I know people will disagree. Why not run Edelbrocks? I run them on my small block blower car and my 572 Indy powered 64. Both drive excellent. Power? The Volare runs 11.0 in street trim, the 64 went 9.180 2 weeks ago. You won't find a larger plenum than is on an Indy crossram, no tuning issues. Carbs are stock except for chokes removed and a second fuel line added. And they're cheap.
