That sounds like a plan man, it would defenitely help a lot!

I stopped by to see your RR, very nice stick with it. My heart goes out to you, sorry to hear about replacing the 440. Very big expense no doubt. Once you’re ready to change out the differential let me know I’ll help. What’s in there now?

Dang, wish I would have known you were there, I would have popped the hood! Another 440. It's a 69 440HP with Eddie performer intake and carb, MSD ign and some new Hedman headers. It defenitely hurt expense wise, so for now it'll still be turning my 2.73 open rear diff until I save the pennies back up. But, I was able t cruise down Route 1 with that rear in there this morning.

I'll defenitely let you know when I change it out. I've bookmarked this page for reference and I'll be using it to help get myself ready when I scrounge up a posi! :headbang:

The speedo is on the driver side around the transmission crossmember and the cable screws on to the adapter.

This is a picture of the adapter and you will index the adapter with the dimple at 6 o'clock with the amount of teeth on your gear that is installed. As you can see in the picture the slash mark at 26-31 is your teeth and you would index that mark at 6 o'clock if you would have 26-31 teeth on your gear. See pic

Questions:
1. Overall tire size, is that from top to bottom?

2. When replacing the Speedo gear related to the photo;
does the whole assemble unscrew. If so do I insert a
screwdriver into the grove and tap it counter clock wise to unscrew?

The adapter plugs in and has an 0-ring to seal it. Pulls out, pushes in. A clamp keeps it in place. Make sure the clamp is mated with the big slots and the small slot is your mark for alignment at 6 o'clock. If you try to rotate the adapter, you will most likely mess up the plastic gear. Also, the gear pulls right out too. When you reinsert the new gear, make sure it engages with the cable end. It's is a square drive end.

Thank you,
I'll be ordering the new gear next week (Year One) I'll following your instruction.

Thanks

1. This site gives you the formula to figure your tire height and yes it is the overall[diameter] height top to bottom. If you are not sure let me know the tire size and I can figure what gear you need.

2. The adapter just pushes straight in on the index mark that corresponds with the window of teeth of the gear you are installing[ NO TURNING THE ADAPTER] it will ruin your gear by turning it. There are 3 positions that adapter can be installed 45-39 teeth, 38-32 teeth, and 31-26 teeth, so the number of the teeth on your gear will be set in the position on the adapter that corresponds.Align the smaller slash mark below the numbers example 26-31 to the dot on the housing, very simple and just push in.

The adapter is an eccentric because the the gears are all different sizes. After you have it installed the holddown sits in the grooves to hold it in just like it appeared when you took it apart.

Merry Christmas
Jeff

Can’t thank you enough for all the help; you have no doubt gone above and beyond being helpful with guiding me through a long process. Not sure how to thank you, send me your address I have something for you. Also Artie send your address I want to thank you both for a job well done.
You both are a notch above the rest……………I can only figure you both have a soft side with a big heart. There was no incentive with sticking it out with me but you both did, can’t thank you enough …..
Have a great Christmas and enjoy the coming New-Year.

Thank you is just fine glad to help,if you know the gear you need I may have it.
The GPS should really help dialing it in, I have saved a few used gears through the years.

I pulled the adapter and didn't realize that transmission fluid was going to come out, oh well.
Anyway, the speedometer gear came out easily when I pulled the adapter. The gear has 40
teeth (orange) and looks like I’ll need to get one that has 32. I reviewed the chart
and cross referencing the tire size and the differential, came up with Speedometer
gear, 32 teeth black. If you have one make me an offer……..
Thanks

Jeff

The gear arrived, are you sure it's an even swop? If not let me know an I'll pay the balance.

Thanks again.
