I need a recommendation on plug wires. I am running Autolite 85's in a 1969 440 6-pack. I have electronic ignition. Crower roller, cams, lifts, bored .40 over.

Current wires are accel 300+ (sp.?)

Thanks!

I am running a 69 440 6 pack with NGK 3332 plugs and Accell black Superstock 9MM wires with Kevlar surrounded core. They are the best wires in my opinion. They look very different as well.

These are the wire I use. Accell 7047 300+ Ferro spiral race wires.

With a resistance of only 150 ohms per foot, ACCEL 300+ Ferro-Spiral Race wire sets provide a stunning 300 percent increase in electrical current delivery. The 300+ race wire's high-gloss black silicone jacket not only looks great, but it also resists heat extremes, petrochemicals, ozone, and moisture better than so-called blended materials for greater durability and longer life. Their high-density, high-temperature silicone insulation provides greater dielectric strength and eliminates arcing and the effects of corona better than the typical OE-style rubber materials. Their all-KEVLAR® stranded inner core, fiberglass braiding, and brass terminals provide unsurpassed electrical conductivity and excellent corrosion resistance compared to terminals made of common or plated materials.

ACCEL 300+ Ferro-Spiral Race wire sets also feature:

* 8mm and 8.8mm high-gloss black 600 degree F silicone jacket
* Conductive graphite coating
* Ferrite EMI/RFI suppression element
* Heavy-gauge copper-nickel alloy conductor

I used to run accels 8.8's but my mechanic said they were over kill. With my latest mods we had to buy new ones and I went with 8.0 Accels. I still have the 8.8 Accels we took off. They had been on the car for about 6 months.

I really like these plugs but the headers melt the boots. They have disintegrated, even with those shields

I have not have an issue with the boots melting on any wires I ever had as long as they are not Touching the headers. You can buy slip on boot protectors.

I have been using MDS wires with no problem, but looked at the Accell 9000 with the ceramic boots in case I burn the boots. I don't know anyone running the 9000's?

I used to use the regular Accell yellow wires but they have a very low temp resistance and burn easy. The 300+ have a 600 Deg rating and seem to perform better.

I went with the Accell's with the white porcelain ends. They should work great with headers.

I have the MSD Street Fire cut-to-length on my car and they worked out really well but as stated above why not grab a set of Taylor Boot Protectors. they come in different colours (I just grabbed what was on the shelf)

Here's a pic of them on my car

I have the Taylor boot protectors on most of the plugs. One of the plug boots melted. I'll have to take a picture and post it

I took your recommendations and ordered the Accel 9000 plug wires (part # 9045c). Amazon had the best price at $116 with free 2 day shipping. Will keep you guys posted.

Let us know how they fit. I may get some if I have issues with burning the boots on the MSD wires.

I found them for $99. somewhere, I think Summit. I ended up using 4 - 90*, 2 - 45*, and 2 straight ends. This kind of sucked because single wires cost $20. each. Maybe with your headers one kind will work though.

I run taylor wires, used to run Accel's, but now I run nothing but taylor cut to fit.. route em any way you need em.. and you can always get the braided boot covers if you need, I put 2 on my back left side plugs because those two were really close to my header..

I have a set of Moroso Blue Max cut to fit that's been on my 440 with headers for over 15 years with no issues.

Update: I installed the accel spark plug wires with the ceramic boots (accel 9000). There are a couple things I wanted to point out:

1) accel sells the wires that are precut for Chrysler BB. The lengths are all spot on.
2) they do work well but my only complaint is that there is no 'snap' when attaching to the spark plug. I had a hard time telling if they were secured.
3) these boots are wider. If you have a problem with clearance with rubber boots, these ceramic ones will not fit at all. I have aftermarket headers and could not slip the boot on cylinder #5
