I have an old timing light that was handed down from a family friend, but it’s at a point where it’s only good as garage art. I’ve had it apart to fix some wiring but it’s still behaving erratically.

I feel like I $100 is probably as much as or more than I need to spend, and these are well rated at Summit:

Anyone have experience with the Innova brand or other recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

On that second link, under questions and answers it states not compatible with MSD ignition which means it won't work with multi spark ignition. I have an Innova dial back, non digital that won't work with my Pertronix III ignition because it is multi spark.

If you have points or MP ignition it should be fine. I am using an older sears metal timing light without issue.

Following up on post about msd ignition. I found the innova might work sometimes but not always accurate with msd. I bought one and now that I have msd, I use old one. Now, a trick I tried and does seem to work, is replace the msd plug wire on #1 with old style wire. Believe it or not it actually got it more consistent. However, I stick to old style light. Works every time.

Innova's are fine, I have a no-frills $40 one that has served me well for a long time, however my damper is marked out to 50 degrees... If your damper is only marked out to say 15 or 20 you'll benefit from the dial-back type. The tach feature is also nice to have if you don't have some sort of tach already. If you need/want the extra features $100 is pretty normal

Up to you on Innova. I was in the business on tools/scan tools for years. Innova is low end Chinese. Get yourself The OTC 3367 full advance unit. Great unit, will last for years. If you burn the cables, you can buy the cables separately. A professional grade unit, but cheaper than if went Snap on. The OTC is designed in the US, owned by Bosch. Made in a Bosch owned plant in China, not just outsourced.
