Anyone have a picture of their neutral lock out plug? I switched from manual to automatic transmission and the new switch has a three prongs, the old plug has two slots? Can this be changed?

The two wire switch on the 4-speed is for the reverse lights. You posted this in the racers hangout, how much are you trying to keep original? The three prong switch has more than one function therefore will take the proper wiring harness and changes for a automatic car for not to start in D, 2, or 1. Reverse lights are handled by a switch on the console or column.

Patch the third terminal into the clutch switch that grounds the starter relay

The 2 original wires from the 4 speed harness go to the outer terminals on the automatic switch. If your 4 speed car didn't have a clutch switch, the starter relay is permanently grounded and will allow the car to start in any gear. You can replace it with a unit from a automatic car. The previously grounded terminal on the new relay will need a wire running to the center pin of the 3 pin switch. Now it will only start in N and P. Also the reverse lamps will function in R

I appreciate your responses. It is a 70 Roadrunner. It used to be a three speed and it is now an automatic. When you explain these changes you are suggesting, can you pretend I am not smart (dumb) and explain it in more detail? Where is this terminal that I need to replace, and the relay? I appreciate your time!

Lack of knowledge isn't dumb. You are willing to learn. So here goes. Obtain a new 3 prong automatic pigtail, an automatic starter relay, some splice connectors a approximately 4 feet of 14 gauge wire. There is a 2 wire connector at the transmission that went to the 4 speed reverse light switch. Cut this connector off. Splice one of the cut wires to the outer wire of the new 3 prong automatic plug. Splice the remaining original harness wire to the remaining outer wire of the new plug. Connect one end of your 4 foot piece of wire to the center pin of the new trans connector. Route this wire up to the starter relay at the fire wall. Install the new relay transferring all existing wiring to the same terminals on the new relay. you will have one extra terminal on the new relay. Attach your new routed wire to this terminal. The terminal I'm talking about is on the lower right corner of the relay in pic 1. Pic 2 is a stick shift relay. It will have this terminal soldered to the case.

DVW you are the man, and kind. Thank you! I can handle this. Plus you gave me a picture, which is worth thousand words. I will let you know how it goes. Have a blessed evening!

The 3-prong pigtail inside diameter was too small to fit the outside diameter of the brown bakelite material of the shut off switch. I will have to return this part and try something else. the pigtail would not fit over the switch.

When I went to take the pigtail back, I was told to cut out the half-moon shaped part sticking out inside the plug pictured in plug 1. That part was hindering the plug from going into the plug. So, I went home and cut it out (pictured in plug 2). It fit just right. I wired it up as you suggested, but the car still starts up in any gear. What now?

I bought the automatic starter relay you suggested. I added that wire to the lower right-hand post (as you are looking at it), and wired it to the middle wire on the pigtail. The other two wires went to the two outside wires of the pigtail.

The plug you have is a later model. That's why it didn't fit. Does it crank if the trans plug is disconnected? Show me a picture of your starter relay and wiring.

Hope you get it solved. Show Doug wiring on both plug and relay.

The red wire on the starter relay is going to the middle wire in the pigtail. The other two wires are going to the outside two wires in the pigtail. I hope this is clear. If you want, I can unwrap the wires going to the pigtail so it is clearer?

I unwrapped the wires for a better look. The middle wire which looks yellow in one pic is actually tan/brown. It is connected to the red wire going to the starter switch.

I not an electric guy wish I could help more. Have you tried the other post on NSS? There's a little bare wire showing, hate crimp connectors they pull out easy. @dvw help 70 belvedere wiring

What happens when the plug is disconnected? Does it still crank? I need a picture of the starter relay installation.

It's in the picture above my post. I commented on the bare part of wire. Looks like its hooked right.
