My question is can someone please tell me the color of the existing wire coming from the fire wall going in to the ballast resistor. Also will this be the wire that has 12v in the start position or 12v in the run position. Also what are the other wires running to the coil both + & - sides. Just trying to clean up the wiring and want to double check before cutting and soldering to length.
Thanks

OP you really need a factory service manual for your year...they are a big help. That said, there was a brown (start) on one side, and blue with a stripe (run) on the other side. But on yours who knows, could have been changed. Best bet is to turn the key to 'run' (don't crank the engine) and see which side has 12 volts. Coil wires (again, someone could have changed them over the years) should have the (-) connected to the ECU(unless you're running points, then it will go to the distributor)and (+) going to the ballast resistor, which should be the side your brown or start wire is connected to.

Thanks for the link davek. Don't have to be a DICK M&M

Don't worry "ITS A 72 RR", its not just you, there are dozens if not hundreds of people on these boards that don't have a clue what a FSM (factory service manual) is and still wouldn't use it if they did have one. Its just way too easy to type a couple sentences and wait for someone else to GIVE you all the information you wanted. The flip side of that is you often get incorrect/misleading information from the person that responds.

In the old days you had to take your car to a mechanic when you didn't know what the hell you were doing. Guess what, he wanted to be paid for his time, knowledge, and ability. Now its just "click and type".

Better a "dick" than a "little p@@**" :p Hope you have a good sense of humor sir, no ill will intended here, you just triggered a pet peeve. But us "dicks" are like that. :drinks:
