New Aftermarket Heads Rumor

image.jpg

Hehe. My big angry cock looks funny as a forum post.

I just spent the last 4 hrs on the phone w/ Dwayne. Summary of the part of the discussion we spent concerning these heads:

He substantiated the flow claims. 306/7 at .700". Said they have a revised floor and minor exhaust port changes compared to RPMs.

Said he will offer a pkg that includes (if I remember correctly) blending bowls to seats, laying back the pinch, exhaust port work, valve job, checking everything, and quality hardware (for hyd ft cam, I think) for $1650. Same pkg for RPMs is $2150. Durability of seats and if they'll fall out in the future will be tested in the field. Said casting quality is between Edelbrock and Source.

So, for a little more money it is possible to get something that will outperform an ootb RPM.

Dwayne told me that Todd Marsh, the guy importing them, has pallets of 'em. Not sure if they're ready to go this moment, but shouldn't be too long. Dwayne's # is above.

No, but based on the change he told me, I'd figure it picked up a bit everywhere, (maybe this is too speculative for some, but similar changes do in other applications).

Many porters with a few hours on their hands can get the RPM/Stealth into the 300 CFM range. So far the Stealth is appearantly a dead heat for this new head if sent to a capable porter both in flow and cost.

Doesn't seem like great progress when for $1750 we are sending good customer supplied 906 heads out the door with 2.14/1.81 stainless valves, Comp springs, locators, seals, retainers and locks, .502" X 3/8" bronze guides honed to stem clearance, hard exhaust seats, heads cleaned and milled and set up for hydraulic roller.

Here are the 906 heads compared to the best OOTB RPM we ever tested.

Lift................RPM...............906

.100..............74...................80
.200.............149.................162
.300.............211.................220
.400.............253.................263
.500.............280.................286
.600.............292.................298
.700.............292.................299

And those sure aren't our best 906 heads we ever tested.

Are the new heads progress? Maybe. But right now it still looks like 45 year old heads can give them a run for the money.

The RPM and Stealth heads in the hands of a good porter will be capable of near 800 HP.

Not sure why you guys are interested in 300 at 700 lift...

As stated above that isn't the cats meow...

When i see a head and the ports aren't raised..... they're not doing anything but being shiny, aluminum and new..

210cc intake runners and i have moved on.

.

Just another money grab from china dollar store part.

.

i would think that anybody with a .700" lift cam, certainly they would have to have a big roller, would want a lot more than 300cfm. those heads will find a following, just like the stealths, but i don't think they have much to add over existing heads.

The promise is a lower cost alternative to existing stuff. We'll see if quality is compromised to acheive a certain price point.

The .700" # doesn't dictate a requirement of a cam that large, but does give a general feel for how well the head will work in general. This is why heads are flowed to .800"+ @ 28" in many cases - even for relatively mild builds.

So far the Stealth is appearantly a dead heat for this new head if sent to a capable porter both in flow and cost.

The bare castings for these new heads will sell for $300 per pair less than a pair of bare Stealth castings.

I don't trust Chinese aluminum and heat treating processes. Their alloys are impure and inconsistent and the alloy is like a piece of styrofoam. We will not even repair these heads.
They are impossible to weld as they "self contaminate" as you try. The guides and seats are of no better quality. The seats have hard and soft spots as you try to machine them.

All the sweet talking and smooth salesmanship will not change what these things are. Chinese parts are a foundation for a castle made of sand. The engine is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Well let's hope your wrong, one of our brand new bridges was made with chineese steel and aluminum. We have all been concerned but it has not colapsed yet fingers crossed. How ae we to know how there QC is? Unless you are standing thre as a trained inspector? I hate McDonalds does that mean all there meat is made from squirrell's and horses? lmao maybe!

Seeing the china pirate parts almost daily in my industry i have yet to see something that isn't a concern or doesn't have something at the wrong tolerance.

As for the head issue, there are many things to go wrong and become far more costly than even the $500 saved.

People eat and made places like dominos and papa johns rich, all that proves are people make STUPID choices, and then CONTINUE to make stupid choices. . . .

Over and over

stealth heads

And over

pro comp ( hey people will buy this ****)

And over

and now we have these......

. next someone else will jump on the few hundred investment of china parts and have another dollar store part made and sell it to you for a few hundred less than the next, all the while making atleast a few hundred per.

.

Where are the Eddy heads cast? I thought everything was cast in china? Asking not stating by the way.

Man, I sure wish that the people that advocate the use of these imported heads could just watch as I weld on one of these, cut the seats, or surface one compared to a domestic head.
Trying to run a bead on one is a joke. The metal gasses out so bad from the contaminates that you can't even get an eyeball rolling. It's a dull haze that rejects filler rod. You have to crank your shielding gas up to 11 like Nigel Tufnel's marshal amp.
Cutting the seats is a joy too. They chatter and sometimes literally spark even at 35 rpm quill speed!
They surface like a piece of structural foam though. The metal keeps trying to stick to the CBN, but other than that, they don't seem to have any hardness. The chips crumble like Pringles.

Like I said, we don't work with them anymore. I'm fortunate enough to have customers that insist on quality parts and don't base purchases solely on price.
