New Challengers getting phased out soon?

A "DODGE" Barracuda? Just doesn't sound right! This would have been a good time to bring back a REAL Dodge Dart instead of that toy they plan on calling a Dart.

"DART" could have been the base model and the "DEMON" could have been the hot rod model

"The Chrysler group rear-wheel drive platform to be used is currently under development, and will likely be shared with future Alfa Romeo models."

In other words another "NEW" Dart with styling hints from previous Cuda's.....
Here we go again, I can hardly wait!:jerk:

I can understand the chance you guys could be upset about it not taking the same stance on looks, but performance wise it standds a real chance being under SRT with the next Viper. You've got to be excited about the chances with that, right? I mean, I love how the new challenger looks a lot like where it came from, but it is a chunky heavy car.

I's not the late 60's or early 70's any longer... It doesn't really shock me at all, they said at the outset it wasn't going to be a long term platform, I just hope they still continue to offer a retro styled RWD V8 performance car what ever it might be Barracuda {Cuda', Roadrunner, Viper, Prowler, Dodge platform or not}, I personally think if they don't continue to offer a retro styled RWD V8 performance car, then the market share will just be dominated even more, by the Ford-Mustang & Chevy-Camaro once again... I would also like to see a lighter, {slim chance in Hell} a stripped down & reasonably priced version available to the masses, like the original Roadrunner was in 68, not everyone wants all the, high wattage stereo, electric windows, elec. heated leather seats, nav systems, A/C or many other creature comforts that add to them being very heavy cars, the only way you can get that now is the Drag Pack & they are way to rare/pricey for the average guy to own & you can't register them for street/hwy use either....

phased out

I really liked that concept of a new Roadrunner that was out

"Soon" defined:

a obsolete : at once : immediately b : without undue time lapse : before long <soon after sunrise>
2: in a prompt manner : speedily <as soon as possible> <the sooner the better> <no sooner said than done>
3archaic : before the usual time

A 5 year run is not soon.

How could they offer a barracuda when Plymouth no longer exsist's? Seems a bit stupid to even talk about until the division is restored. Guess they think most young people will not know the difference lol Hell I would rather see Bad *** GTX'S and Road Runners :)

I,m sure that chrysler owns the rights to the cuda and barracuda names so they can do what they want...I agree that plymouth cuda sounds alot better than dodge or chrysler cuda....
Petty Blue 67 gTx

Dodge Cuda does sound stupid, however, a retro-styled modern Cuda that's 7/8 scale of the current Challenger powered by a 392 or 426 would be a big plus in my book.

But on the other hand, I don't have too much faith in Dodge so I'm not holding my breath.

OK guys, if Chrysler Corp's statements hold true, it will not be a Dodge 'Cuda. It will not be a Chrysler 'CUda, or a Jeep 'Cuda or a Fiat 'Cuda. It will be sold under the SRT nameplate like the new Viper. http://drivesrt.com/srt-viper/

Believe me, I think it would be cool as hell for them to resurrect plymouth and stamp out a bunch of new road runner's, GTX's, 'Cuda's and the like, but unless we want to see them completely go under this time, I don't think we should expect it. I'm hoping for the best reasonable outcome here, and I quantify that as this;

The best knod that they can feasibly make to it's roots while trying desperately to keep it out of the red in the corporate ledger with todays customer.

I'm with Budnicks on this one. I don't really want or need all this brilliant jackassary on a vehicle. Personally, I think that when you are driving a car, you should be, well, driving. Heck, I was looking at stereos for my old beater truck and I had to ask the guy "Do you have anything that just plays tunes?"

Heated/cooled seats? Wear clothes.
Heads up displays? I'm not Tom Cruise and I'm following a Kia, not chasing Migs.
Blue Tooth Conectivity? I'm attatched to the mostly white teeth I have now.
Satellite Navigation? Really? Like I don't have enough people tell me where to go?

Yeah, I defenitely hear you Rev and Budnicks. I would love that, but I think the marketplace as a whole would destroy them for it. What kind of a percentage do you think we classic faithful have? I'm sure we're outnumbered dramatically by the iPad loyalists and all of their techno-gadgetry fanatical cousins. I'm one of them too. I would happily see everything but my bluetooth gone. I love bluetooth connectivity.

Don't have to mess with my phone and I can answer and make calls with my eyes on the road and no headset to contend with. Ultimately though, I like that I can play music from it wirelessly. I live in Delaware and there are about 0.8 radio stations here worth anything and I don't want to pay for satellite radio.

When most of us were growing up, fancy was power windows, A/C or criuse control. I'm with the rest of you when it comes to all the fancy items...I don't want or need them including a cell phone, you want to talk to me, call me at home. I burn my own CD's and listen to what I want to listen to, I would rather run with the windows down in the summer and I am pretty sure I can tell when its raining enough to turn on the wipers. We pay as much for a new car today than our parents paid for homes in the past which is why things are as screwed up as they are now.
We do what we do with our old mopars to save a simpler time when cars were bare bones (based on todays standards) and individualized . There are plenty of go fast cars out there with enough options to keep you busy for a month. We were through this all before in the thread about the new Dart and the "Cuda" will be the same thing. If I want a real Cuda I know where to find plenty of them and it sure won't be in my local dealers new car show room. :cya:

Thanks

Thanks for the support, but I do like some of the stuff, A/C, stereo/CD player, elect.windows, in my daily driver 99 Dakota 4x4 & 2002 F-350 4x4, especially the A/C, here in Cali from mid spring until late fall, you kind of need it 90+degrees, "but not in my toys", I don't need or want that stuff, unless maybe it was an Imperial or New Yorker or something, I would rather have the windows "rolled" down & wing window open, arm resting on the door, Am-radio AM/FM 8-track or Casset deck blasting away {I do have a nice Pioneer CD am/fm in my RR}, you guys know the position... I personally think, the concept of an affordable, stripped down, no thrills, RWD muscle car, basic transportation, with a good V8 engine trans & rear axle combo, basic vinyl interior, would sell very well, especially with the youth & us older gents reliving our youth.. It seems it would be very profitable to the U.S. auto industry also... That's just me though... Be it Dodge or Chrysler or Jeep, they are all the same beast, in my book, they are all MOPAR's....

That a very good point that you make there.
