New Corvette

I'd spend a little more money and get a REAL sports car.

That Z51 will frog stomp that Porsche any day of the weak. And a well equipped Z51 will set you back a touch over $60k

And just wait for the Z06.

A little pissed that the C6 was the last "Tall Guy" Vette, but I will give credit where credit is due. GM did their homework on this one.

I ordered a 14 C7 in March of 13 and was pissed that 11 months later when the car came in that I didn't fit at 6'7" and 300 pounds. I let a friend buy it and I grabbed a 14 ZL1 six speed car. That 460 horse Vette could keep up with my 585 horse LSA until about 125. Then that Vette would leave me in the dust after that.

Both cars were low 12's bone stock. Ever driven a 16 up ZO6?

I disagree that the vette stomp a twin turbo Porsche. I have driven the Porsche, it is quite possibly the greatest sports car ever made. Ferrari included.
IMO, after 69, Chevy never made a quality vette.

I don't want a car that looks like my grandsons transformer that turns from a car into a monster. Thats what this new Corvette looks like.
I also dont care if a one car is slightly faster than another from 0 to 60 or a 1/4 mile.
Fit, finish, engineering, feel, brakes and suspension.
As far as I'm concerned the best Vette was the C2, downhill since then.

we don't know what the 2020 Vett C8 depreciation will be "yet"

I'm sure it will be more than a Porsche
of a used 2 or more times the cost/value,
especially a Turbo Porsche, GT, Carrera or Cabriolet etc.

doesn't mean he C8 Vett can't possibly be a good investment
& fun ride

all of it is just speculation right now

I wonder how they compare in insurance rates too

I like the Porsche better too, but it's a lot more $$$

Sure we do!

I'm not singling out or bashing on Corvettes per say just stating a general reality. That initial new car depreciation is a killer and Corvettes are no exception.

Example, a five-year old 2014 Corvette Stingray started at $51,995. Many examples on Autotrader.com of well optioned 2014's for $31,000 or less.

A 2020 Corvette starts at $59,995. I suspect five-years from now, it will be much the same deprecation ratio. Especially if one considers GM will sell a ton of these. Then when the ZO6 comes out in a year, the ZR1 sometime after that, these lowly base Stingrays will be a dime a dozen, and there again, possibly the best value per dollar performance car on market, Corvetty plastic aside...

Obviously you have not driven a C7

My brother has a C7 - it’s a sweet machine. Just goes to show you they can make a few good ones in every year - aka your Mercedes.... lol

I've finally gotten accustomed to the styling of the C7 and I like the C8 all-round, inside-and-out; but I prefer the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 at $99,200...looks and Porsche reputation. A 4 liter flat 6 cranking out 414 horsepower must feel and sound wonderful.

That being said, a heavily discounted C7 would be very tempting if the test drive and evaluation showed it to be a great car IMO.

I like the Porsche, but sorry, I'll pass on the plastic Chevy.

I always liked the '71-'74 Pantera (mid-engine) and still do. Cheapest one on AutoTrader is a '72 model for about $60,000.

I looked at about 15 different sites listing used car depreciation, and the Corvette doesn't seem to fair all that badly. This list (from 2018) is about average. There was a note that the C7 Corvette might depreciate faster when the C8 model comes out, which just says to me that the new model is more desirable.

I'm not a Ford or Chebby fan, and I've been a member of the MOPAR nation since 1969 when I was 7...
Having said that, I bought my dad's 82 Collector Edition Corvette, it had every option. Slow as **** and a floaty front end around 120 mph.
I would love a Viper, and I absolutely would put a supercharger on that V-10
I would love a 427 side oiler Cobra replica, absolutely must be a oh **** car to drive, and a oh **** I'm never riding with you again as my passenger.
I'd love a Pantera with all of the issues worked out, and a built 351 Cleveland, which is the stock engine, I'd hurt some feelings with my Pantera, big time.
The C8 Vette is outstanding, and I too can't wait for the HP version.
I would NOT trade my Roadrunner for any of them.

He gets one of everything new as soon as it becomes available!

Actually, with the exception of the Hellcat, I don't. I want it when it first comes out and lust builds up for a year or so to the point where I just have to buy it. :D

My first thought upon seeing it....

I have already seen at least 8 new Corvettes running around here in metro Detroit.
