Hello -

Just recently picked up a '68 Charger (R/T clone) from a forum member here and relocated it to Cincinnati. This is the car I've wanted since as long as I can remember, and was finally able to make it happen.

Seems to be a fairly fresh 440 w/ 3-spd manual valve body w/ floor shifter.

While I've done most basic maintenance on my other vehicles, I'm completely new to Mopars (and older cars in general). My plan is to modernize the brakes, suspension and steering, and restore the interior over time. It's surprisingly rust free, but will need new floor pans at some point.

I already knew it will need some refreshing (starter, p/s gearbox, charging system), but now I suspect something is out of whack in the motor. Runs rougher than I think it should and it's particularly noisy on the passenger side. I'll get a thread up in the appropriate forum once I have a bit more info to share.

I'm usually pretty comfortable digging in and learning as I go. I've already learned tons from the forum, but would really love to find a local shop with some expertise to help me diagnose any motor issues before it turns into something worse. Any pointers to a local shop or expert would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like you have a sweet charger there. Good luck and welcome to FBBO.

He has a bar downtown now (Bootsy's) and I've heard makes an occasional appearance. If I see him out I'll let him know he has a fan in FL. :)

Welcome. Nice score. Yes a local shop is important. Find one that at least leans Mopar. I got lucky and found one here after 20 plus years. Get it out of the weather if you can.

Welcome aboard and thanks for joining the forum!

And, how is the Sky Line Chili?
I sure do miss it!

Welcome to the site nice car you have there I do miss my 68 and 70 chargers the 68 was way over my head way back when I started messing with cars (couldn't even call my self an amateur) I had a 68 charger that was an r/t and 440 4 speed but sadly it was way way beyond my ability back then and I knew it so I sold it and moved on . The 70 i bought it and I thought I wanted a 2nd gen charger agen but I sat and looked at it for a good long while. And decided I didn't want it I wanted a 3rd gen agen I'm a huge 3rd gen fan . Anyways good luck with your new toy hope you get to have some fun in it

Thanks!

I'm not a Cincinnati native, so I never got the taste for Skyline, but it definitely is one of the first things people ask about when I mention I'm from here.

If you're really interested, they sell it in cans and it's orderable from several online retailers. :D

Steer & Gear Firm feel stage 2 box worked wonders for my steering and they are in Ohio http://www.steerandgear.com/

Great looking Charger and welcome from Columbus! Steer and Gear are some pretty good people and are Mopar specialist. They're on the east side here and do great work!
