New member first project 65 satellite

WOW!! you guys are clippin along! my guess is that someone(s) on your team has the tools and talent for this resto... I love the color and you're right about Diamont, it does make a difference; and paint is not something on which you should cut corners...

congrats on a great project man, I am enjoying the progress. I love the color too by the way. Is that 68' burgandy?

Nice job.

What part of Michigan you from? Grand Rapids here.

More pics next week. Buffed out one whole side thus far, very happy with it. Collecting a lot of interior pieces, man that's slow.

I also dropped off the top end to the machinist to start that process. I plan on ordering a kit from cope for the trans, nothing special just a good stockish rebuild.

I live in otsego, Ron in Martin. I race st Martin most of the summer and any mopar or stick shift events too.

Hi,

I have the same car and still in metal repair stage, I see you have the same rust area at back window as showed in the picture.

Did you just piece in new metal there ? Was your drip rail rusted off at the bottom in that area, kinda looks it a little in the picture ? I am at that exact place in my repair and looking for ways of repairing ?

Beautiful colour choice.

Actually, as I look at the picture above and see the rust spot on the body line area , if that needs replacing, how/what is the best way to re create the body line that will need to be cut out ?

On the rear section I cut out everything on both sides and replaced with new metal. It took about 4hrs per piece. I have a small brake (harbor freight) and use that to form the solid bends. For the slight rolls and stuff I just use an acetylene tank.

It's hard to describe until you do it but the tough part is as the pice goes back it widens and flattens and "rolls" more to the top. Once you make some bends and just start fitting it comes around. Just takes time.

The drip rail itself was solid. I did reweld a couple areas toward the lower section to hold it back down. Sorry didn't grab any pics of that stuff, you know it gets when you just get going on something.

Wow, You sure have come along way! looks fantastic, i don't think you'll be able to keep the "pigeon poop" any longer, Looks like it flew the pen into a world of its own.. Really looks good, hands down great work. Your going to have one nice ride and some envious friends...

Well got everything wet sanded except for the roof. Just going to wait to spring on that.

We put the blower/heater box back in, rear windows, and some small trim pieces.

Also started more work on the engine. Need to clean the block real well, and start the rest of the assembly.

Andre,

I have had my 65 Belvedere II convertible since it was new so if you have any questions regarding originality or need pictures that would help with the 65 let me know. Good luck on your project,

Arland

Nice work, at this rate it will be ready for spring with no problem. Wish I could see that color in person, looks amazing! :)

Arland,
Thanks. Down the road ill probably hit yah up for some engine bay shots. Just want to make sure I get the wiring along the cowl correct.

Also, does anyone know-behind the rear seat is there a cardboard divider of some sort on the back of the seat so you can't see the foam from a trunk view.

And, debating on engine color, we keep going back and forth between turquoise and orange. I'm thinking the turquoise will look better against the body color than the orange.

Hopefully we can drop the engine/trans in around first of the year.

Are you still thinking about selling your 65?

Trunk Seat Separator

Andre,

Here is a group of photos showing the engine compartment details such as the wiring harness routing etc. This has been restored completely and I had the same decision to make regarding the engine color. Since this is a 69 440HP, I went with the turquoise because the orange 426 wedge engine color just won't work with the Copper Poly original color of the car. You seem to have a similar situation. A photo is included showing the trunk gray cardboard separator. Nothing in the trunk was touched during the restoration so everything you see is as it was in 1965.

For those who are interested, note that the brake master cylinder backing plate and the splash shield in front of the radiator are gray colored because that is the color they were when the car was new. I took pictures of the parts before disassembly just so it would be documented prior to restoration. Most cars end up with these items painted black or body color but they came from the factory in the gray color you see. Hope the pictures help with your project and, yes, I am selling the car but that is a different subject for a different thread or PM. Regards,

Arland

What is mounted on the end of the steering column? My 65 just has the shaft coming through the firewall.

That is were the shift cables attach to the column. Is your car a 4 spd? If so it would not have this.
