Hi All!

Just want to run this up the flagpole and see what everyone thinks. The Stainless steel gas tanks that are being marketed for

the B Bodies sound too good to be true, so are they? Because of the alcahol in our gas, the stainless steel tank would not corrode

or get holes in it. It would virtually last forever! Does anyone know what grade of Stainless these tanks are made of? Are there

more than one manufacturer of these tanks? Etc. Thanks for shedding some light as I am getting close to putting my tank in and

want to do this once!

Some cars and not others, at least not shown online, maybe by phone. I have a list of different gas tank sizes on a notepad, will be buying soon, hopefully.

I'm very happy with mine so far.

Some grades are not affected by water or alcohol. The alcohol attracts moisture, and it sits in the bottom of the tank, floatbowl, etc.,

and the water corrodes the aluminum or steel. How long have you had yours John L, and how does it fit? does the sending unit fit fine?

who is making these? Thanks!

if its low grade like 304, it would be not much different than a mild steel tank, i would take aluminium over mild or stainless anyday

Just put it in this winter, fit was good for the tank, sender, filler grommet, and fuel lines. Got mine from Tom's Classics off Ebay, it was for a N95 Calif. emissions equipped 1970 Charger.

Alcohol is corrosive and still the lunatics in Washington let the Corn Industry ram alchohol down our throats.

Thanks guys, I looked at Tom's with the link you provided and it doesn't look like he has the one for my 68 GTX. Other vendors do, and I'll contact them

to see what material they're made of. Nice to know they fit good. I think I'll buy a stainless one and put my steel one up for sale.

Stick a magnet on it. If it sticks, eventually it will rust. A high grade of stainless would be hard to form.
But it still has to be better than mild steel. We need to come up with a alcohol separator...

I know a guy down in Tennessee that has one. It's called a still! Ha! The tank is available through Tom's Classics on EBay For just under $200.00.

They're made of 304 SS. Not the greatest, but better than steel. The 304 has good drawing properties so it can be stamped easily without work-hardening

and cracking. I'm Gonna take a chance! Thank you everyone for chiming in with your ideas.

I bought this one from tomsclassics on ebay:

Appeared identical to my stock tank and nicely made with great seams and welds. It is made in Taiwan but seems to be of much higher quality than the cheap communist Chinese crap..very happy with tank and bought a stainless strap to go with it from another ebay seller..
Taiwan is China same as Hong Kong. Auto city classics from e bay same price... the 304 stainless will eventually corrode with alcohol in it so it would take 100 years for e 10 to rot it out I'll keep it out of salt water would look good with stainless lines fuel and brake....
