Hi to all B body members. Over a year ago I was at the Carlisle auction and there was a real nice 69 Coronet R/T conv. Hemi Orange. I didn't bid on the car because I was there for another vehicle. Anyway since then I've been looking to get one but with no success. Other than 2 that have gone through Mecum auctions they're really just not out in the market. I've seen a decent amount of 1970 r/t conv. but I prefer the front end look on the 69. I've looked on ebay, hemmings, cars on line, autotrader classics, even craigslist. I know they didn't make many convertibles with the r/t option but it seems the market is real dry. Is it that the current owners really don't want to part with there cars or is it that the majority over time these cars just got lost, destroyed, ruined?? All opinions are welcomed. Thanks, Andy.

i have a '69 r/t hardtop and i think there were 6448 of these made. thats not very many cars and when you consider that back in '69 convertibles weren't popular and only 426 made, there probably aren't many left. all but 10 were wedges and they probably had the wheels drove off them and ended up junked. i think as whole any factory '69 r/t is a little rare. there were probably 125,000-150,000 ss chevelles made, not counting the gto's, 442's, etc.

Welcome aboard and just keep doing what you're doing. I scan the boards every single day when on the hunt. I'm not implying you per se', but one can't hit the ads once or twice a week and not run the risk of missing an offering.

Welcome aboard. I have an ebay account and have saved certain search criteria and get emails anytime anything i search for gets posted. I currently have searches for coronets, chargers, satellites, darts, demons ,and valiants. There are new posts for each one every day. Its still fun to search out other places, but ebag seems to be the most popular place to buy and sell stuff. Good luck

Let me compliment you on your exceptional taste in cars. :)

The orange one was probably KDs and yes...that is a beautiful one. that car is only one of two I've found in V2.

I've been tracking '69 R/T convertibles and have been able to account for about 75 of them. That number includes scrapped and existing cars. In my estimation, there are probably no more than 30-40 in drivable condition with a handful in high level restoration. (the orange one comes to mind as one of the top cars out there). No, they are not easy to find.

Are you seriously looking for one? I just might know of one coming on the market.

Yes Coronet R/T's conv's are pretty tough to find ads for as I've always found. If i recall i think there were 431 US sold 68's. It's not tremendously easier to find Sat's, Sport Sat's, RR, or GTX's either but it is easier. R/T's are tough. Good luck in your search.

One thing to consider is there were more RR convertibles made in one year (1969 2,128) than there were R/T convertibles in four (67-70 1,976)

Thanks for the compliment. I now regret not bidding on the Orange R/T. She went for slightly over $30,000 which I thought was a good buy. I said to myself at the time that I'll find another available but I was for the most part wrong. At the time I just didn't know the rarity on these cars so it's been somewhat of a learning curve. I also would like to get in the future a 70 GTX and a 70 RR conv. but unless a great deal comes around for them I'll just be patient, stay optimistic that eventually I'll have the opportunity to add a 69 R/T conv. to my collection.

To 69Coronetrt.....I am seriously looking for one. If you do know of one in the future available please provide me with the information. It would be greatly appreciated!!

1969 R/T's are somewhat rare

This one has belonged to me since 1972. Dodge only produced them half of 1969 because that is the year that they introduced the Super Bee. It was so popular - killed the R/T.

Welcome and good luck.

You too have great taste in cars.

I'm not sure where you got the information but the Super Bee was introduced mid year for the 1968 models and the R/T was produced all of the 69 model year. Had the introduction of the Super Bee affected sales to a significant degree, the R/T would probably not have survived for the 1970 model year. The consolodation of the Dodge B body line for '71 plus the popularity of the Charger probably killed the Coronet R/T more than anything else.
