Hi Everyone,

RE: 1970 Plymouth satellite sport 383

Basically I think it is time to rewire my car. I'm having trouble chasing down some electrical issues that I caused.

see link to thread

http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?107340-Fusible-link-Battery-hooked-up-incorrectly-burnt-out-something

There are some questions I was hoping I can get answered here if anyone has the knowledge.

1. Best wiring harness replacements taking into consideration I want to upgrade some of the systems later.

Is this something a beginner can actually do ? How much will a shop typically charge for doing this?

Money is tight but I don't want to screw things up and end up going to a shop anyway.

2. Economical dash replacement/upgrade and gauge upgrade ... I have the long needle speedometer but I would like to upgrade to a rally or custom dash.

Dakota digital seems like it would cost me$1,200 to $1,500 for the gauges alone. does anyone have any other recommendations.

Are their any templates I could get from other members that built there own dash. ( I will search the forums again but I think speed freak did his own dash)... Maybe I can buy one from them.

That is the gist of my inquires any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Arthur

M&H produce the best reproduction harnesses going and are distributed solely through Year One.

The best I can recommend is to swap out your dash frame for a rallye and go from there. You could try to fit the rallye instrument cluster into your standard dash frame but, in the long run, you're better off swapping the frame. As for the actual instruments you may have some luck finding a restoration worthy set on this site (or at least a housing) you could also purchase reproduction electronic gauges, circuit board and voltage limiter through various sources.

Starting this project from scratch will be expensive no matter what. It all depends on what looks good to you.

You cannot put a rally cluster in a standard dash, it must be a rally frame dash.

Agreed on the M&H Harness. Buy from Year One and wait for a discount code. I get them weekly if you need one PM me,

Wiring a complete car was outside my comfort zone so I paid someone to do it. I think I was quoted about $1200 but it was done right and that is what counts

I also just purchased a Dakota Digital Dash. It will run you 13-1500 but that is complete not "just for the guages" but you have to supply them a core to retrofit.

You can purchase guages and make your own bezel or post a Want ad here for a good quality direct replacement
