just brought home a 70 sport satellite with a 69 440, holley 850 dual feed double pumper vaccum secondaries, dual exhaust, and 727 auto. Looking to replace the old points style distributor with a msd or dual point, or pertronics. Have any of you upgraded to a good plug and play distributor for less than 300.00 or is it best to go with msd 6al and new msd distributor etc. Thanks guys...

id go with a stock mopar set up.. got one in my 66 belvy on a 440 ....no issues ,,,no problems.....turn the key and GO. no worrying about if things gonna fire up today or not!

Saccyclone: An 850 Holley dual feed double pumper would have mechanical secondaries. If your carburetor has vacuum secondaries it's something else. Pull the air cleaner off and look for the 'list' number on the front of the air horn (upper part of carb). Post it here or look on Summitracing.com to see what you actually have.

Thanks tpodwdog for the info on the stock set up......i will look into a stock set up this week.....

I'll second the factory electronic setup. I have the basic orange box on my 66 Bel and it works great. Some say a chrome box is better, and I'm sure this is correct info, but I'm not sure if I will notice anything by switching over. I have also run an MSD in place of the orange box but fired by the electronic distributor, and that was a noticeable improvement when the car was cold.

I think I saw a kit for sale on this forum.

I second the mopar plug and play. I did it several years ago and no problems.

Hello... I just built my 493 (440 original) stroker engine and I am running the factory style magnetic pick up distributor. What I done was sent the distributor out to Don at 4secondsflat in Oregon. Don was really cool to deal with and was so much help. After giving him my engine/cam/carburetor information, car weight and transmission information he put my distributor on a machine and customer curved it for under 100 bucks! Just my experience...... Hope this helps you out.
