Went to take the car for a ride this evening and had no brake lights. Brought it back home and fiddled with it for a few minutes. Narrowed it to down to the Direct signal switch connector before I had to quit. It had power going to it coming from the brake light switch but none coming back out of the brown or green wires. I did unplug/ inspect, plug back up. Still didn’t work and then I got the final yell that I had to leave lol. I’m just wondering what’s going on right here at this plug in? Guess I’ll dig in to it tomorrow.

If there is power from the brake switch when stepping on the pedal at the turn signal harness connector. And if the turn signals work its most likely the turn signal switch.

Yes there is. That’s what I’m thinking also.

Do the 4 way flashers work? I believe 1970 was the first year for the switch in the column. If so work that switch on and off many times. I have seen funny glitches from the 4 way part through the years.

Are the turn signals the same bulb? Do the turn signals work? If so it’s probably the turn signal switch. I just had this problem, but only one brake light quit working, and it was the switch.

Ok I’ll try that tomorrow. Thanks!

It’s a digi tail set up but I also took the kick panel off and unplugged the tail light harness and tested there also. No brake lights coming out the main harness to that point either. Has to be the turn signal switch don’t it?

The Turn Signal switch is the weak spot of the circuit... Many have failed.. I keep spares.. Replaced my first one in the early 80's..

Not when and if your can find an NOS one and see what they cost. Do not go the reproduction route, and the disappointment that goes with same..
The O.E. was failure prone and Repops are only a little worse.. I am hoping LED's help them survive longer.

Sounds like it. I replaced the Chinese turn signal switch, that was in the car when I bought it, with a NOS I found on eBay. NOS wasn’t cheap, so I hope it lasts longer. If not, the Chinese stuff is 1/3 the price, I could get 3 of those for the price of NOS. Only bitch about that is having to pull the steering wheel every time they need replaced.

I just realized mine has the original turn signal switch in it. I did replace the cam signal a year or 2 back because it broke. If I recall nobody makes a correct 70 switch because of the flasher knob is different. I’ll make a quick fix for now and hunt down a NOS one.

LEDs on everything I have now but it did see life before I installed the LEDS
Are you using electronic flashers too??

And they have not had a direct 70 replacement in a long time, the one I bought from a Dodge Dealer in the 80's had to be filed down and had a second harness for some Chrysler products.

I’m using LED flashers with a ground. I did cold start video for St. Patrick’s day and was going to take it for a spin. I noticed only the right brake light was
working and then it quit working. It is the original 1970 turn signal switch. I’ve got a aftermarket replacement here until I can find me an NOS one cause the flasher knobs are different.
