62-64, I have a few switches with the same symptoms.

Brake lights intermittent, if I spin the center of the switch it sounds a little crusty, plug it back in lights work.

Eventually brake lights are back to intermittent, and when they do work feed wire connector seems a little warm while lights are on.

Wiring is all new, modern fuse box etc.
If I connect the 2 wires brake lights come on no problem.

Getting a new correct switch is impossible, and new electrical parts are garbage anyway.
Nos ones pop up, but I just think the switch I have needs a good cleaning.

There's no removing it from the bracket without breaking the plastic.

Can these be taken apart to inspect and clean to return to service?

I cleaned mine with an ultrasonic cleaner but if you don't have access to one use some electrical contact cleaner.
