No Mess Oil Change

I've posted this on another thread but it fits here also.
Take a gallon jug and cut it lenth ways. Cut the bottom in a curve to hook behind the filter. Loosen the filter enough to be able to spin it by hand then insert your modified jug. Keeps the oil from going all over the K frame.

Did the same with a half gallon jug, been using that for 40 years and thought everyone else was too.

I had a remote filter on my 67 barracuda the guy before me installed, no mess ever, ended up shortening the hoses and set them up better for gravity drain. thinking about putting one on my charger , along with an oil cooler.

If the battery ever gets to the trunk the filter will get moved to that location.

Changed oil on my cars for eons and then started to see that doing it myself wasn't saving much coin and hassle with clean up and then taking to recycling center when that became required. I had irritating encounter though taking wife's car to a Valvoline place where the kid cranked the new filter on so hard it damaged the seal. I found that out when there was a massive oil pool on garage floor next day so ended up doing my own oil change anyway rather than tow the car. And my daughter took her car there paying with credit card and go figure within 24 hours after...her card was maxed out. I talked to shop manager and wrote to company and they did squat. So no further patronizing there or any V place. Only car I still do my own on is my '63 Ply. I have a certified service garage do other changes.

This friggin primate... Let me rev the hell out of my smokey ol' chebby. Should be changing the oil in that thing, it's eating as much oil as it is gas. Then I'm going to do a burnout on the edge of the road so my tire drags on the curb. Then I'm going to get under this POS while it's balancing on the floor jack. This youtube all star is the guy I want to take advice from.

Otherwise, it seems like a cool oil drain pan.

Yikes ... another Autozone/O'Reillys oil change gimmick. Sh*t, if we haven't yet figured out how to change oil without making a mess and without using products like this, maybe it's time for some to hang up their smocks and hair caps (referring to a video where a guy was wearing his wife's kitchen smock and shower cap to change his oil... very sad).

Thanks for that link. After seeing some of those other videos, I can't tell if this guy is serious or some kind of spoof. I mean I would HOPE that it was a spoof. That's just terrible advice and some unfortunate person is going to follow it. Who says this as a troubleshooting/repair tip:

If you have an engine trouble code for a catalytic converter, just pour a couple of gallons of lacquer thinner in your gas tank and rev the engine for 20 MINUTES!

This works great for the modern Mopars. Put a tube on the nipple and route directly to the pan.

The problem with that (as I see it) is that the threads will stick up into the pan a bit as they are longer than the pan is thick, thus creating a bit of a stand pipe and leaving more residual oil in the pan than I would care to.

Not sure, but when you pull the plug, the drain hole is open with no stand pipe so to speak around it, so all the oil drains (if I'm explaining this correctly). That easy drain thing would still have some threads up in the pan by 1/4" or 1/2" I would guess, leaving that much old oil in the pan. Does that make sense?

Yes. Once you put the tube on the nipple, it's so clean you get spoiled. Easy too.

One must also consider the quality of oil the ( cheap) places use. I don't think a $15-$20 oil change at a shop is near the quality of oil i use when buying it at an auto parts store. 5 quarts of oil & a filter alone are usually more than that. Imo.

...and the cross-threaded and/or over-torqued drain plug.
